Jake Locker- QB- Washington

I am not among those that a feel Locker is destined to be a top NFL quarterback.  His accuracy struggles are really concerning because the NFL is all about ball placement.  However, Pete Carrol’s familiarity of Locker could push him in this direction and the Seahawks need to address this position.

Jimmy Smith– CB- Colorado

Jimmy Smith is battling Brandon Harris and Aaron Williams for the #3 cornerback spot, the result of that battle could mean several million dollars.  Smith fits a big need for this Ravens defense that struggled shutting down the pass, I feel this is a spot they will address with their first round selection.

JJ Watt- DE- Wisconsin

John Abraham is not getting any younger which could result in the Falcons bringing in some talent at the position early in the draft.  Watt is a high motor guy that can get after the quarterback.  Atlanta could also look at upgrading their wide receiver position and players on that list  include Jon Baldwin, Leonard Hankerson, and Torrey Smith.

Justin Houston- OLB/DE- Georgia

Houston could see his draft stock rise after what is expected to be an impressive combine performance.  His ability to rush the passer is something that teams covet.  The question right now is what position does he fit in, linebacker or end?

Anthony Castonzo- OT- Boston College

It is no secret that the Bears will be focusing on upgrading their offensive line.  Castonzo is an athletically gifted tackle that needs to work on getting stronger.  However, he plays with good balance which will allow him to help keep Jay Cutler upright and clean.

Christian Ballard- DE/DT- Iowa

Ballard was among the biggest riser after his impressive week at the Senior Bowl.  He is a hybrid player that can play both defensive end and tackle but his ideal fit will be as a 5 technique.  The Jets struggled getting pressure with their front 3 and Ballard is a guy that can help in that department.

Aldon Smith- OLB/DE- Missouri (PACKERS)

The Packers are a football team that doesn’t have a lot of holes so they have the luxury of taking a project player like Smith.  The question right now is what position is Smith going to play in the NFL.  He has exceptional athletic ability but lacks the size and strength to play defensive end in a 4-3 system.  However, he doesn’t have much experience dropping into coverage so he will need time to make that adjustment as well.  With all his concerns, he is still a very good pass rusher and Don Capers is the best at finding ways to utilize talent.

Derrick Sherrod- OT- Mississippi State

Sherrod’s solid play during the Senior Bowl has helped his stock in my eyes.  He is a player that has decent balance and good physical skills at a position of great need for the Steelers.
