2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ryan Broles

Ryan Broles– WR- Oklahoma

5-11 185lbs Junior

Stats:

2008-46 receptions, 687 yards, 6 touchdowns

2009- 89 receptions, 1120 yards, 15 touchdowns

Pros:

Broles has good speed and is a 2 stepper.  He can out run all the defensive angles.  He has shown the ability to make big plays down the field.  He is a fluid athlete that can make defenders miss in the open field.  Broles has been a very productive receiver while at Oklahoma boasting several multi-touchdown games.  Broles is going to be a good fit as a Slot guy that can stretch the field.

Cons:

Broles is going to struggle getting off the line of scrimmage in the NFL.  He is best suited for the Slot receiver role.  He doesn’t run well balanced routes.  He attempts to run at full speed but he isn’t under control when attempting to break off his routes.  Due to his unbalanced routes I feel he is going to struggle getting separation in the NFL.  Broles is not a natural pass catcher.  He doesn’t explode to the football and lets the ball hit his body rather than plucking the ball out of the air.

Thoughts:

Don’t be fooled by Broles great production.  The films I watched he relied on his speed and when he transitions to the NFL he isn’t going to be the fastest player on the field anymore.  There will be a tough adjustment period for Broles as he learns how to become a receiver and run pro style routes.

Projected Round:

Broles’s speed is his biggest attribute but his lack of feel for the game is concerning.  He is going to need time to develop as a start so for that reason I would look at Broles as more as a 3rd round option.
