Denver Broncos Contributing Rookies
By Editorial Staff
NFL Mocks is going to do a team by team look at what rookies have the potential to contribute during their first season. Every year there are countless rookies that have major and minor impacts. Everyone expects the 1st round picks to make an impact but we hope to point out some other players that may help your favorite team win games.
The Denver Broncos have had plenty of media attention with Tim Tebow and his followers coming in, but will the hype come with results? I personally felt Tebow was a reach in the first round, but his work ethic is so great and his personality is so good, how could anybody root against him? Hype, his fans who grossly and blindly overrate him, and his throwing motion are all negatives against Tim Tebow. I have no ill will towards Tim. He’s an amazing human being, but I am sick of the media coverage (imagine if Favre didn’t get a lot of it too, then it’d all be about Tebow). The casual fan and Tim Tebow groupie don’t realize how much of a transition there is between the NFL and college football. Tebow could be the greatest college player of all-time, but I trust my eyes and what I see from his play and I don’t think he’ll be anything more than above average in the NFL.
Demaryius Thomas: Had a foot injury early in camp and was held out a few days, then reinjured it. He doesn’t have a stress fracture, but his status for Week 1 against the Jaguars is in doubt. X-rays have come back negative.
Tim Tebow: Do I really need to write anything about him? Every little thing has been in the top stories on nfl.com, yahoo.com, etc. It looks like he’ll be the number 2 this year as Brady Quinn has not impressed anyone in camp. Of course as you all know by now, he has some bruised ribs. He was held out of the Broncos’ recent preseason game as a precaution. Expect him to play through pain and contribute this year, whether as a QB or wildcat formations. Don’t forget the jump pass! Just kidding. Looking at his preseason action at QB, it appeared that he had improved his arm motion, but when under pressure, he reverted back to his old windup.
Zane Beadles: is competing with Seth Olsen and Russ Hochstein for the starting left guard position in camp.
JD Walton: will be the first starting rookie center in Denver in a very long time.
Eric Decker: Had a small ankle injury early on in camp, but has recovered and played in their last preseason game. He caught 5 passes for 66 yards.
Perrish Cox: Will be competing for kick returning duties.
