2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jared Crick, Nebraska

Jared Crick– DT- Nebraska

6-6 285lbs Junior

Stats:

2008- 2 tackles

2009- 73 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss

Pros:

The hype has already boiled over for Jared Crick.  Some are pegging him as the best non-quarterback prospect for next year’s draft.  I am sure he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Cornhusker Ndamukong Suh.  Crick had a breakout season and put together good numbers with 9.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.  He has good quickness and is continuing to develop good pass rush techniques.  He would best fit as a 3-4 defensive end where he would be asked to create pressure but also hold strong against the run.

Cons:

At 288lbs Crick would be a little undersized as a defensive tackle in the NFL.  Some scouts worry that he would get pushed around by the massive offensive linemen in the NFL.  He should focus on adding extra bulk which would easy some of the scout’s concerns.  Crick is going to have to prove that last season’s stats were not a result of playing on the same line as Suh.  Many critics are fast to point out that Suh was often doubled teamed leaving Crick in one on one situations.

Thoughts:

Regardless of Suh’s impact, Crick showed that he can be a disruptive force.  He is going to face more double teams this season and he needs to find ways to make an impact.  With his physical skills and football smarts there is no doubt that Crick will have a solid season.  He currently sits at #31 on our 2011 NFL Draft Big Board.

Projected Round:

I need to see more from Crick in order to put him as high as others have him.  As I see it right now I am projecting Crick to go in the 20-25 pick range.
