By Editorial Staff
6-4 211lbs Junior
Stats:
2008- 58 receptions, 924 yards, 4 touchdowns
2009- 43receptions, 596 yards, 4 touchdowns
Pros:
If you watch college football you have heard the name Julio Jones. Jones has been leading the Alabama receiving team since his freshman season. Jones is a tall and athletic receiver. He uses his good size and excellent body control to make plays on jump balls. Jones utilizes his speed and elusiveness to find cracks in the opponent’s defense. Jones excels with the ball in his hand and often breaks many tackles on his way to gaining extra yardage. Jones isn’t afraid to take big hits and makes a lot of his catches in the middle of the field where massive linebackers wait. Jones has been starting since his freshman season and has excelled under the immense pressure at Alabama. His ability to perform under pressure will help with his transition to the NFL. Alabama runs a pro style offense so that will limit some of the adjustments Jones has to make.
Cons:
Jones needs to work on his concentration. He has struggled with drops which is a major concern for NFL scouts. He needs to remain focused and watch the ball into his hands. I am sure he spent tons of hours on the “Jugs” machine this summer. Jones also needs to continue improving in the route running department. Another season at Alabama should help with this route running abilities.
Thoughts:
Jones is at #3 on our 2011 NFL Big Board and sits behind AJ Green for the top wide receiver spot. He needs to show that he can hang onto passes and be more consistent, if he wants to overtake Green. It also wouldn’t hurt to see a spike in his touchdown numbers.
Projected Round:
Jones will be battling Green for the top wide out spot and should hear his name called by the 5th pick in next year’s draft.
