2010 NFL Draft:St. Louis Rams Trading the Top Pick?
By Editorial Staff
Can the St. Louis Rams Afford to Trade the #1 Pick?
There is a lot of chatter that the Rams are openly discussing the #1 overall pick. The rumors are linking teams like the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and Seattle Seahawks to the trade. These rumors have me thinking can the Rams afford to trade that pick.
For any of the teams mentioned to move up to the #1 spot it would take a lot of ammo and would likely include 2 first round picks. The Rams are picking #1 because they are a bad team with a lot of needs and gaining extra picks would help fill those needs. However, arguably the top need for the Rams is at quarterback and Sam Bradford is by far the best available in this draft. Any team moving to #1 will do so in order to select Bradford. It is well documented that the Rams have passed on quarterbacks the last several years and are not in this desperate situation. Probably the most crucial factor in the Ram’s decision has to be their feelings on the other available quarterbacks. Do they think that Jimmy Clausen, or Colt McCoy, or Tim Tebow can be the face of their franchise and lead them back to respectability?
I personally am not high on Jimmy Clausen and feel that Tim Tebow is going to take a lot of development. Colt McCoy might be a good alternative but will he be around at the top of the 2nd round? I think the Rams have no choice but to keep the pick and select Bradford, whom they are high on. Bradford is capable of stepping in and starting from day 1 and he will bring some hope to this desperate franchise. It’s time for the Rams to have direction at the quarterback position and it all starts by selecting Bradford at #1.
All the rumors are going to make for a very interesting start of the 2010 NFL Draft! Keep checking back at NFLMocks for updated analysis and grades.
