The Tim Tebow Debate!
Ok, Ok this topic has been beaten into the ground but like it or not Tim Tebow is one of the more controversial draft picks in recent years. Here at NFLMocks we want to talk about how where we stand on this topic and where we would select Tebow. I would love to see a lot of comments on your thoughts about this intriguing topic.
We all know what Tebow brings to the table and we all know what he lacks. I have gone back and forth on this topic several times but I now feel like I have an official position. I wouldn’t draft Tebow in the first round but I would defiantly draft him in the 2nd. Now saying that I would draft him in the 2nd round depends on what team is doing the picking. If I am one of the decision makers for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders I would push to select Tebow. With that said I rate Colt McCoy higher and would select him ahead of Tebow but if you miss out on McCoy then get Tebow.
Let’s take a closer look at the Bills, here is a team that has had a rough couple of years and is suffering from fan backlash (remember the hate billboard a fan started). I feel for the Bills fans because there is no excitement attached with this team, I know that none of the fans got overly excited about the hire of Chan Gailey. Nothing against Gailey he is a good coach and very well may turn things around but he just doesn’t excite anyone. Now look at their roster, who gets you excited? I would say that I would be excited about Jarius Byrd and that’s about it. Lee Evans is a good player but is less effective because of the quarterback situation. Now if the Bills select Tebow in the 2nd or 3rd round there will be some excitement in the air. I am not advocating that they select Tebow just for the excitement; he brings other qualities to the team. I don’t need to go into detail but we all know that he will bring leadership and a positive attitude to a team in much need of both. I also want to point out that Chan Gailey has been successful with questionable quarterbacks that have good mobility. I hate to bring it up but you can’t ignore the fact that Tebow will ignite jersey sales and advertisement deals which will bring some income to the team. You can’t ignore the hard work he has put in to adjust his delivery, this kid wants to be the best and win and people like that rarely fail.
So my position is that selecting Tebow will do more good than harm. His marketability coupled with his leadership and determination will spur excitement within your franchise and with some coaching maybe a franchise quarterback. So what are your thoughts? Where do you stand on the Tebow debate? Let’s hear it!
