Sleeper/Steal Alert: Kyle Williams
By Editorial Staff
Sleeper/ Steal Alert
Every year the NFL Draft is littered with Busts and Steals/Sleepers. Steals/Sleepers are what make a team’s draft special and build decision makers reputations. Some of the more famous Steals/Sleepers include Tom Brady (round 6 pick 199), Terrell Davis (round 6 pick 196), and Zack Thomas (round 5 pick 154). But a Steal/Sleeper doesn’t necessarily have to be drafted in the later rounds. An example would be the Green Bay Packers getting Clay Matthews at pick 26 after players like Larry English were selected. Matthews earned a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl after registering 10 sacks in his rookie season. We are going to review what makes this player a potential sleeper and what teams might be interested. Player:
Kyle Williams – WR/PR – Arizona State
Projected Rounds:
5th – 6th Rounds
Thoughts:
Kyle Williams is a quick and sure-handed receiver who is a threat on every play, to take it the distance. Last year, his numbers suffered due to ASU’s tenuous quarterback situation. Williams could benefit from landing on a team with an established quarterback situation. The familiarity will be important for his development.
Williams ran an impressive 4.43 40-yard dash at last month’s combine, but really helped his draft stock when he ran a blazing 4.30 40-yard dash at his recent pro day. This great 40 time sent scouts scurrying to re-adjust their draft grades on Williams.
Williams’ game changing speed makes him a player who could sneak onto a roster and outplay everybody once he’s there. Williams’ speed and reliable hands could translate into a bargain for a team in the 5th or 6th rounds.
