New England Patriots Taking A Final Look At Ole Miss Stud Dexter McCluster
By Josh Sanchez
With the draft just over one week away, NFL teams are doing their final rounds of workouts and scouting to find the next potential star for their franchise.
Albert Breer from the Boston Globe is reporting that the New England Patriots will send a contingent to Largo, Florida on Wednesday to work out former Ole Miss captain Dexter McCluster. McCluster is one of the drafts more versatile players with his ability to play running back, wide receiver, and contribute in the return game.
The speedy playmaker had an amazing Senior Bowl week which is where he really burst into the spotlight. New England first met with McCluster during his time in Mobile, Alabama and they immediately showed an interest in him.
“They had me up on the drawing board, had me drawing up routes, and what would I do in certain situations,” McCluster said at the combine. “That got me prepared for now. Knowing that when I go in that room, I’ll be prepared to draw up a route or explain a concept or anything like that. It was more of a slot receiver type role with them.”
New England has three second-round picks — where McCluster is projected to go — and they love players who can fill multiple roles in an offense. With running back Kevin Faulk nearing the end of his career, McCluster would be a perfect replacement.
We will have to wait and see where the former Rebel ends up, but one thing is for sure… the offensive coordinator that gets his hands on McCluster is going to have a lot of fun with his new weapon.
