Jacksonville Jaguars are latest team to consider trading down in NFL Draft

In a draft class that lacks any standout players outside of Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh, many of the teams occupying picks in the top half of the draft are looking to trade down and acquire more selections. The draft is one of the deepest in history, so trading down would allow a team to acquire more picks and get better value with their selection.
While speaking with Jaguars.com, G.M. Gene Smith stated that the team would like to trade down. “We’d certainly entertain the possibility of acquiring more picks,” Smith said.
The Jaguars are considering defensive linemen, according to Smith. Jacksonville’s pass-rush ranked among the worst in the NFL and they haven’t been able to find consistency among the players currently on their roster. It was just two years ago that the Jaguars traded up for defensive end Derrick Harvey and used a second-round pick on Quentin Groves; neither player has panned out.
Of course, this could all just be a smoke screen and Jacksonville could be targeting Florida quarterback Tim Tebow who has often been linked to the team. Trading down would make perfect sense in that case.
