10 Things I've Learned this NFL Season

facebooktwitterreddit

#1: When Tom Brady goes down the Patriots whole team stops playing at a high level. The last time I checked Brady has never played defense, but apparently he had some affect on them. You can call it age if you want, but something changed when Brady left.

#2: Brett Favre doesn’t make a team better by himself, but he did give the Jets the belief that they could win against team while having fun. Apparently whatever Favre brings to the table has spread to his New York teammates.

#3: Injuries can do any team in. Ask the Chargers, Patriots, Cowboys, and Colts what injuries that have affected their star players have done to their playoff hopes so far this season. All four could still make the playoffs, but it will be harder than first thought.

#4: Not all NFL players know all the rules. Donovan McNabb proved that last week when he didn’t know that the NFL had ties.  I was amazed, as I’m sure all of you guys were.

#5: The Detroit Lions are the worst professional franchise in sports today. I feel for players that are drafted to Detroit because they probably feel like their career is ruined right away.

#6: Young QBs are playing well. Brady Quinn has been pretty impressive and so has Matt Cassell in replace of Tom Brady. Trent Edwards is another guy playing well, although the last few weeks have not been as impressve as the opening few weeks.

#7: The “Wildcat” formation is officially in the NFL, and guess what? It works. Miami has used it and is now 6-4 after winning just one game last season.

#8: Dominating defensive lines are now the key to winning championships in the NFL. The Giants beat the Patriots last season with this philosophy. New York is still winning with that same formula, and so are the undefeated Tennessee Titans.

#9: Washed up quarterbacks aren’t always washed up. Just ask Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins. Coming into this season neither were seen as game changers in a positive way, but both are now MVP candidates.

#10: The Dallas Cowboys are the soap opera of the NFL. Unlike most NFL teams the Cowboys don’t have breaking news weekly, they have it daily. At times they even have them hourly.
