The 2012 N.F.L. draft approaches by the day. Each week we’ll be looking around at all the of the 2012 NFL mock drafts out there that from different draftniks or even well paid analysts. We’ll also constantly update and write new 2012 NFL mock drafts for the site as well. Today we’ll take a look at Russ Lande’s 2012 NFL mock draft.

The always controversial Russ Lande is out with his latest mock draft. Lande is a former N.F.L. scout who worked with the Cleveland Browns and now is the head of the scouting department for Sporting News. Lande has been lauded by some as a opinionated outside the box analyst who calls prospects the way he sees it and criticized by many others as a guy who is just trying to make waves. I’ll let you decide for yourselves. I think the truth lies somewhere in between. ither way, Lande’s mocks are always interesting. I remember one year he had Athyba Rubin mocked into the first round in his final mock draft, which didn’t happen. I think he was drafted by the Browns in the 7th round.

His newest 2012 NFL mock draft came out five days ago and there are some major, major whoppers.

1. Buffalo Bills- Andrew Luck, Stanford, QB

Ryan Fitzpatrick had an impressive season last season, but he is not a franchise quarterback. Andrew Luck helped put Stanford back on the map maybe he can do the same with the Buffalo Bills.

2. Carolina Panthers- Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State, WR

Even if Steve Smith is still in a Panther uniform by 2012 (Which I highly doubt) they would still need a target down field for franchise quarterback Cam Newton since Smith will be 33 in 2012 and other then him there is really no one else who can be a threat down field.

3. Washington Redskins- Matt Barkley, USC, QB

The Redskins can’t be so sure about John Beck being the starting quarterback this upcoming season. The guy has not played a regular season game since 2007 and he stunk. He is also 29 years old.

A prospect that many analysts had in their top two as far as offensive tackles after the NFL season ended, some had some questions about him after he suddenly dropped out of the scouting combine in late February after only participating in the bench press. Many believed it had to do with a arthroscopic procedure done on one of his knees shortly before the combine that caused the knee to swell up. However, on March 30, he helped himself with good workouts at his pro day. He ran a 4.96 forty time along with 31 reps in the bench press. According to the National Football Post, he excelled in his positional drills as well. He is a full scouting report on Smith including his strengths and weaknesses.

I really don’t get to involved with mocking past the 1st round but I wanted to give it a shot. Below is what I feel could happen on day two of the 2011 NFL draft.

33. New England Patriots (Via Carolina) – Mikel Leshoure, RB Illinois
- The Pats addressed the defense in round 1 and now they steal with Leshoure. He has the ability to be a true force in the Patriots offense.

34. Buffalo Bills – Colin Kaepernick, QB Nevada
- There are some offensive linemen still left on the board but Kaepernick represents a player with a ton of upside. His skill set fits exactly what Head Coach Chan Gailey looks for in a quarterback. The presence of Fitzpatrick will provide Kaepernick the time he needs to develop.

35. Cincinnati Bengals – Ryan Williams, RB Virginia Tech
- Benson is a free agent and even if he returns the Bengals need someone to give him rest.

36. Denver Broncos – Drake Nevis, DT LSU
- The Broncos defensive line is shaping up nicely with the additions of Bowers and now Nevis.

37. Cleveland Browns – Corey Liuget, DT Illinois
- The Browns are following Denver’s lead and adding Liuget will help with the pass rush.

38. Arizona Cardinals – Ben Ijalana, OT Villanova
- The Cardinals offensive line has been an issue and Ijalana has a lot of upside.

39. Tennessee Titans – Ryan Mallett, QB Arkansas
- It’s hard to believe Mallett falls to the 2nd round but here he is landing with a team I feel could pull the trigger on him in round 1.

40. Dallas Cowboys – Mike Pouncey, G/C Florida
- Dallas has issues across the offensive line and Pouncey is a versatile player that can play guard or center. I feel he has the athletic ability to possible bounce outside and play tackle.
