Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have continued to win and look to be on pace to secure a playoff berth either via division win or wild card.  The Ravens will likely be picking late in the 1st round and may be in a position to take the best player available at any position other than quarterback.  The Ravens weakness to this point has been the secondary.  Ed Reed is getting old and was out the first six weeks of the season so look for them to target a safety such as DeAndre McDaniel from Clemson if the value is there.  Cornerback is another area where the Ravens really lack playmakers.  Potential CB targets include Virginia’s Ras I-Dowling or Texas’ Curtis Brown.  Don’t be surprised if the Ravens pull the trigger on a Tackle such as Anthony Castonzo from Boston College.  Despite having Michael Oher as the LT of the future the Ravens have to replace Jared Gaither and are always great at finding top value in the draft.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns seem to have found something with Colt McCoy at Quarterback.  They are much better than their record shows and are likely playing their way out of some of the top players.  After taking Joe Haden last year and with the struggles of Erik Wright and Sheldon Brown at CB the Browns could target another stud CB if they are picking in the top ten.  Someone like Patrick Peterson from LSU (if he is available) or Prince Amukamara of Nebraska could fit the bill.  The Browns seriously lack playmakers on offense and could really use a true receiver for McCoy.  Someone like Georgia’s AJ Green would be a fantastic weapon for the Browns.  Their current offense consists of the Peyton Hillis show, and the more weapons they can get for their young QB the more the offense can open up.  Look for the Browns to get a playmaker with their pick to seriously help this team get back on the winning track.

Updated Team Needs: AFC North - NFL Mocks - NFL Mocks - Covering the 2012 NFL draft, Mock Draft Database, Scouting Reports, and Fantasy Football

1. New England Patriots-  The Patriots have continued their move to the top team in the NFL.  Brady has been very sharp and the collection of role players have infused a must in attitude.  You have to love watching Woodhead score a touchdown and then make a tackle on the ensuing kick off.

2. New York Jets-  Some how the Jets keep pulling off these nail bitters but that is the mark of a good team.  However, I do have some concerns about the offensive production.  If they face a team that puts some points up on their defense they could struggle to catch up.

3. Atlanta Falcons-  The combination of Roddy White and Matt Ryan is defiantly in the discussion for the best young duo in the league.  This is going to be a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs.

4. Baltimore Ravens-  The Ravens defense has taken some criticism this season but they are still creating turnovers.  The key to this team is going to be how well Joe Flacco finishes down the stretch.

5. Philadelphia Eagles-  Mike Vick looks like the real deal.   There are many defensive coordinators having a lot of sleepless nights!  However, with his playing style you always have to worry about injuries.

6. New Orleans Saints-  The Saints are starting to reach their stride as they make their playoff push.  The defense continues to be very aggressive which helps the offense keep the pressure on.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers-  The Steelers just pounded a much improved Oakland team.  The Steelers defense is the stuff championships are made of so Pittsburgh fans should be optimistic.

8. Green Bay Packers-  Green Bay has endured through major injury crisis and look to be a potential playoff threat.  Aaron Rodgers has looked much better the last few games improving on his early season accuracy struggles.

9. Chicago Bears-  I know the Bears beat Miami with their 3rd string quarterback but they did what they were suppose to do, shut him out!  If Jay Cutler can take care of the football this defense will take them places.  Does anyone else feel that Chicago is the best fit for Cutler, because the defense makes up for his mistakes by creating turnovers of their own.

10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-  This team can’t be for real, can they?  I am really a big supporter of what Raheem Morris has done with this team.  The players really respond to his style of coaching.

NFL Power Rankings: Week 12 - NFL Mocks - NFL Mocks - Covering the 2012 NFL draft, Mock Draft Database, Scouting Reports, and Fantasy Football

Now, I’m not saying that the big/popular schools don’t produce a lot of NFL talent because they absolutely do. I’m just trying to let it be known that scouting departments, for the most part, do their homework on the entire country, not just the ACC, Big 10/12, SEC, and Pac 10, although that is where a ton of the talent comes from.

In order to prove to you that smaller and unknown schools produce big-time talent, I’ve compiled a list of very good players, some legendary, that I’ve seen in my lifetime that came from those types of schools. I went back in the NFL Draft’s history and went through every team’s draft since 1987, the year I was born. I came up with 89 players who could be considered for my list. In addition to those players, I probably missed quite a few more players since I only started seriously following football in 1996 when I was nine years old.

The list is in alphabetical order, NOT ranked in order of greatness (I just know if there are any comments on this, it’ll be from some guy criticizing me because Jared Allen is first). Some players on the list are young and have quite a few years left, so I put their age to show that even though they may only have one Pro Bowl selection, they still have years left to get more accolades. Minnesota Vikings at New England Patriots: The weekly drama that surrounds Viking QB Brett Favre continued heading into week 8. During the loss to the Packers in week 7 Favre suffered 2 bone fractures in his surgically repaired ankle. Due to the injury all hype this week was if he was going to play or not against the Patriots. What you didn’t hear in the news hype was his ankle is as bad as it will get, meaning further injury is not a risk. So considering he is on a farewell tour in the league he will suck it up and play no matter what. But what remains to be seen is how much Favre plays within the system of Coach Brad Childress. Favre and Childress have always had an awkward relationship and now that the end is getting closer look for this relationship to be the news of next week if they lose. As for the Patriots? They are on fire after winning 4 straight. Look for the Patriots to take out some rage on their former star wide receiver Randy Moss and limit him to 2 receptions due to the solid play of rookie Devin McCourty . The Patriots will do what they do best and win as they beat the Vikings 36-14 inciting a riot in Minnesota.
