TCU entered the Big 12 in 2012 after a couple of big name schools in the conference departed for the SEC, and with their arrival to the Big 12 came the national arrival of quarterback Casey Pachall. Pronounced “PAW-hall,” the junior quarterback has been nearly perfect in his first two games so far this season. After the team’s first game last week, he was nine for nine with 201 yards and three touchdowns. In his Big 12 debut against Kansas, he finished completing 24 of his 30 passes for 335 yards and two more scores.

Most importantly, Pachall has not thrown any interceptions and is completing 80 percent of his passes. I think there is a star being born here. Pachall had a very good sophomore campaign with the Horned Frogs, even with having to fill the huge shoes left by Andy Dalton. He finished last year with 2,921 yards, 25 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions.

I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen from this guy. I know it’s extremely early in the season and TCU hasn’t even gotten into the meat of their schedule, but he is showing consistency and has an ideal NFL makeup. At 6’5″ 225 pounds, he has the look of a starting NFL quarterback, but there are some things to clean up. As efficient as he has been passing the ball, Pachall has to work on, well, not fumbling. He had two costly fumbles against Kansas, one that scooted out of the back of the end zone for a change of possession.

If he can clean up the turnovers, this is a guy who could be a top five player at his position.

In his standout first season as the starting QB for the Horned Frogs, Pachall has completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He was at his best on the biggest stage, throwing a career high five touchdown passes and 473 yards in the upset win over Boise State, ending their perfect season.

At 6’5″ 216 pounds, this guy has the look of an ideal NFL quarterback prospect and he is really someone to watch in Wednesday night’s game.

His top target has been wide receiver Josh Boyce, who has continued a pretty impressive start to his career with 56 receptions for 932 yards and nine touchdowns. At 6’1″ 203 pounds, he has pretty good size and is definitely a player to watch against this Louisiana Tech defense.

Tank Carder LB Texas Christian Horned Frogs

This is our Tank Carder scouting report. Carder is a linebacker for Texas Christian University. Last season prior to the draft there was a buzz about Carder in the draft community partially because he had a nice final game against Wisconsin with 3 tackles for loss a sack and 6 tackles. He really stood out, but this year that buzz is nearly gone, but he’s still a solid player.

I Don't See Any Wings

I think I vaguely remember hearing, some time ago, that Texas Christian University, of Horned From fame, will be joining the Big East conference for the 2012 season in all sports.  Did I mention that TCU is in Texas?  And, if I’m correct, the Big East is, well, not anywhere near Texas?  I also remember reading that the board at TCU voted unanimously in deciding that each and every sports team will have to travel a minimum of 866 miles per away game at least HALF of their respective seasons.  Huh?

Pass blocking: Huge prospect with broad shoulders, long arms and solid core.  Very athletic for a man his size but has some  problems with speed rushers off the edge. Uses long arms and to steer DE’s and LB’s past the quarterback . Size and ability to move laterally forces DE’s take the long route around him.  Has a hard initial punch that rocks defenders back on their heels, but still sometimes allows defenders to get into his body and effect his balance due to bad hand placement.  Needs some technique work in regards to moving feet after contact, but utilizes  impressive strength that helps him overcome even the quickest bull rusher.

A few months ago, former TCU quarterback Andy Dalton was a prospect many thought would be a mid-round pick, likely taken on the second day of the draft. While he still might be selected on the second day of the draft, he has caught the eyes of analysts around the country with his pro day performance. Trent Dilfer of ESPN even went as far as to compare his skill set to Packers Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers. “One of the reasons why he hasn’t generated as much momentum and hype is because what personnel and coaches do at this time of the year when they’ve kind of settled on who they want, they’re going to shut up about that guy,” Dilfer said recently on 710 ESPN Seattle. “At the end of the day, the good quarterback people in this league- I will not be wrong here- are going to be wanting Andy Dalton late in the first round or early second round if he happens to fall that far.” Dilfer then got into Dalton’s skill set. “I can’t tell you how much Aaron Rodgers I see in Andy Dalton. They have tremendously quick releases, they can throw from multiple foot platforms, meaning they can be off balance, very aggressive by nature, (they can) extend the play, and they understand the value of a completion.” When looking at Dalton, I can definitely agree with some of the strengths that Dilfer talks about. However, it needs to be seen whether he can adjust to a west coast offense after coming from a spread offense at TCU. Here is closer look at Dalton’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as a projection on where he might be drafted in late April.

Jacquizz Rodgers improved his 40 time for NFL Scouts

We are back for our second day of NFL pro day inside information, and we have much, much more today. The talks yesterday were centered around TCU quarterback Andy Dalton, and rightfully so. Dalton completed 49 of 52 passes in front of scouts, and two of those incomplete throws were dropped by receivers.

Dalton put on an impressive show at the TCU pro day, but the Horned Frogs weren’t the only team to host NFL scouts yesterday. Follow after the jump to read who your team was looking at on Friday.
