Super Bowl Sunday brings about a fantastic halftime show (most years), some of the funniest commercials you will ever see, and a football game the whole world is watching.

Most of us NFL experts wake up like little kids on Christmas morning today. I can’t imagine how it feels to be a Steelers or Cardinals fan today, but I’m sure the suspense is killing them.

Enough talk, let’s get onto the most important part of the day. The game? No, of course not. The most important thing today is my prediction on what will happen.

I’ve got Pittsburgh winning 33-17. Why the weird score? A couple of reasons. I have to be different than other ‘experts’ and I really think Pittsburgh’s defense could set up a lot of great field position for the Steelers. That means either a lot of touchdowns or a lot of field goals, and I went with the latter.

The Super Bowl MVP will be Hines Ward. I know he’s not full health because of his strained knee, but it won’t matter. Three years ago Ward had an injured shoulder and still was the Super Bowl MVP against Seattle.

Remember to check out Fansided’s other NFL websites, especially Raizing Zona and Nice Pick, Cowher.

It really doesn’t get any better than the matchups in the NFL this weekend. All four are rematches, and all four deal with some fantastic teams.

But the best matchup of all might just be Pittsburgh-San Diego.

In week 11 they met in the NFL’s first ever game to end in an 11-10 score. I’ve never seen a final play that meant absolutely nothing get disputed as long as the Steelers touchdown on the final play of the game has been. The score meant nothing but it should’ve counted and it didn’t.

This weekend the Steelers and Chargers meet again.

The NFL’s best defense against one of the NFL’s hottest teams. Phillip Rivers has played brilliantly all season (although he has no pro bowl to show for it). This season he’s thrown 34 TDs and 11 INTs to lead the Chargers back from a dreadful 4-8 start and into the playoffs. San Diego is now just one game away from the AFC Championship game, a thought that would’ve been laughed at if spoken five weeks ago.

Pittsburgh appears to have one of the more balanced teams standing. A few weeks ago before the Steelers game against New England I called Pittsburgh the NFL’s best team and heard a few chuckles burst out of the men around me. Who’s laughing now fellas? A Steelers victory against San Diego will send them to the AFC title game, and if the win comes paired with a Tennessee loss then the Steelers will have homefield next week with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

The Steelers defense is one of the best that have ever played in the NFL. I say that because they are ranked #1 in practically every statistical category. San Diego might be playing without LaDainian Tomlinson, although Darren Sproles isn’t exactly a downgrade, against a Pittsburgh defense that doesn’t allow anything to get going offensively. It’s probably giving Rivers nightmares when he watches tape.

The keys to the game are simple. Pittsburgh just needs to play the same defense they play every week in the NFL and then get the ground game going. If the Steelers can control the clock and put 17 points on the board it’s going to be tough for the Chargers to win on the road. I don’t expect another 11-10 circus act but I do think the game’s tempo will be controlled by Pittsburgh, meaning it will be low scoring.

The Chargers have to sustain drives. One of two things are going to have to happen. Either the running game is going to have to open up the passing game or the passing game is going to have to open up the running game. Either way the point is you can’t be one dimensional against a defense like the Steelers have. It might be impossible to move the ball effectively the whole game but if San Diego can keep Pittsburgh on it’s heels on defense then they can win this game. On defense the Chargers are going to have to play inspired football. The last time against the Steelers they bent but didn’t break, and that was key in giving Pittsburgh a chance to win the game.

Make sure you tune in, because if the last matchup between Pittsburgh and San Diego taught us anything it was this: Anything can happen.

In some places around the world I’m sure it is illegal to put a team that posted the second undefeated season in NFL history and a team that went a combined 18-1 at #2 in the first power rankings for next season.

I also broke another rule of mine when I put the defending Super Bowl champions at #7. Usually I put the defending world champs #1 in my initial power rankings but after reviewing the NFL’s crazy offseason I decided that Michael Strahan’s retirement, as well as everyone else getting better will probably be too much for New York to repeat.

And since I just said that, they probably will repeat.

Anyways, I’ve now composed my second edition of power rankings. Check it out:

-1

-5

Washington Redskins

All four NFC East teams are ranked in my top 14. Jason Campbell continues to develop and Clinton Portis is among the NFL’s best 10 running backs. The defense has a lot of talent. This team is going to help make the NFC East as competitve as ever.

Carson Pamer is ranked #8 in Pete Prisco’s Top 50 list (Sportsline.com). He’s a great QB but #8? I love Palmer but I don’t think he’s quite that good. If Cincy can find any defense then they will be playing for a chance to win the AFC North late in the season.

Chicago Bears

It’s a make or break year for the Bears. The Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton experiement will either finally fail completely causing Chicago to draft a QB in 2009, or the Bears will work themselves back into the mix in the NFC.

Buffalo Bills

I really think Buffalo is an up and coming team in the AFC but the conference is loaded with talent already, meaning there isn’t much room for a young team like the Bills. In a few years we might be talking about how great a duo Trent Edwards and Marshawn Lynch are. Both looked great in year one (for rookies) to me.

+1

Carolina Panthers

Carolina is better than people think they are. Remember this same offense, led by Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith, played for the Super Bowl just a few years back. There’s no reason to believe they can’t find that magic again. It’s unlikely but not impossible.

Baltimore Ravens

I’ve read reports that Troy Smith is looking nice in Baltimore right now, and will probably start on opening day. If he plays well then the Ravens might be in a position like Cleveland is now with Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn. Joe Flacco or Troy Smith? I’m sure this is a problem the Ravens hope develops.

San Francisco 49ers

This is probably Alex Smith’s last chance to impress anyone on the West Coast. He is very inconsistent and is really hurting the reputation of future NFL players like Tim Tebow, since both ran Urban Meyer’s college system.

Here’s how the process will work, and a few interesting things you might want to know:

1) All we need is your vote below! Just vote and check back the next day for the next team. The plan is to change the team drafting every day about noon (CT)!

2) Tell your friends! We want lots of votes so that this is a true fan mock draft.

3) AND…..I had to make a few changes to your draft order. First you can’t have two NFC teams 31 and 32 (you guys selected the Saints and Cowboys), so I took the highest AFC team (Colts) and put them #31. I also realized that your 12 playoff teams were 9 NFC teams and 3 AFC teams, so I had to correct this also. I removed the bottom three NFC teams in the final 12 spots and replaced them with the top 3 AFC teams not in the final 12 spots (which are suppose to be represented by playoff teams).

4) Remember the Panthers have already traded their pick to the Philadelphia Eagles.

5) If you have any questions, PLEASE feel free to email me at dantheman4250@aol.com
