With the NFL Lockout nearing an end, it’s time to start putting together your fantasy football big boards and getting ready for your annual drafts. My personal draft is set for August 30th, so all in one day I am going to enjoy the release of the new Madden video game as well as a live fantasy football draft, and I hope you have some big plans for your as well.

As those days grow closer, let’s take a look at players I think could really surprise this season, guys who might be drafted in the later rounds or even go undrafted all together that could be huge for fantasy football owners in 2011.

How the Cassel trade affects the NFL Draft

Cassell Trade Affects Top of Draft: Matt Cassel’s trade to the Kansas City Chiefs has sent shock waves around the league. Forget how little Kansas City gave up for a guy that appears to have all the tools of a franchise quarterback, and you still have a lot of shock waves.

The trade means Kansas City, drafting #3 overall no longer needs a quarterback. Despite Tyler Thigpen’s great play to end the season many experts thought the Chiefs were still considering drafting quarterback Mark Sanchez from USC (assuming that Matthew Stafford would be gone already).

Michael Crabtree's decision puzzling to some

Michael Crabtree has decided to wait until after his personal NFL tryout to have surgery on a stress fracture on his left foot. Or at least that was his intial decision, which he appears to now be re-thinking.

The former Texas Tech wide receiver’s first plan was to run his 40 yard dash for NFL scouts before having the surgery. To some, like ESPN’s Todd McShay that made no sense. Crabtree has two seasons of excellent video tape already assembled, meaning he doesn’t really need an impressive 40 yard dash time to raise his draft status.

I’ve been saying since the end of his freshman season that Michael Crabtree is a can’t miss NFL prospect. He was redshirted his first season, which is what allowed him to become NFL Draft eligible. He took advantage and decided to leave Texas Tech early.

I don’t blame him.

This guy can be the next Larry Fitzgerald. He isn’t as physically overpowering as Fitzgerald but he is a playmaker. He would automatically upgrade any offense. Graham Harrell’s disastrous performance at the Senior Bowl only makes Crabtree look better.
