This is the year where I think you can wait to take a QB until the later rounds. Well, that’s if you miss out on Mr. Rodgers, or Michael Vick. Those two are in a tier of there own this year. They mostly likely will go in the first round of your fantasy draft. Rightfully so, they put up big time points and can win a fantasy match all by themselves. Other then those two, the next five or so QB’s look to be about the same caliber of players. Manning, Bress, Brady, Rivers, and Romo. That’s a lot of talent, but talent I’m willing to wait on this year. I won’t be taking one of them in the second or third round this year. Instead, I will be loading up my roster with RB’s and WR’s.

The reasoning for this is simple, the QB position is getting deeper and deeper. Here are just a few QB sleepers that might be great values this year!

Matt Stafford. If he could ever stay healthy he has a chance to be top 10 at the position. After all, Stafford does have “Megatron” on the opposite end of his passes. Also, Nate Burleson is underrated in my opinion. The other Johnson has potential, both TE’s Pettigerw and Scheffler are better then average. Let’s also not forget about Jahivd Best, he had that turf toe for the better part of last year. Best is a home run hitter that can catch the ball out of the back field, with the BEST of them when healthy. The Lions showed everyone they’re a team on the rise last year. Anyone remember that Thanksgiving game against the Patriots?? I do, the Lions looked like the better team for the first half of the game. That was also with Shawn Hill of all people at QB, not Stafford! The Lions would go on to lose, but they showed a lot of heart that day! Don’t think to hard about taking a late round flyer on Stafford this year. The Lion’s will put up some td’s this year!

Fantasy Football is a huge past time for all football fans and we here at NFLmocks love all facets of football! While, we focus on the draft, we are going to begin peppering in college football previews, fantasy football, and anything else football related to augment our coverage and because quite frankly all most of us do in our free time is talk football. In order to expand into fantasy football coverage, we found a few more writers, one of those writers is Christopher Halfer. “Mr. Freakin’ Fantasy”. Also, Augie Tieri will also help us carry the fantasy coverage. Let Christopher know what you think.

Is it really ever too early? Not if your reading this…..

Ok, Lets get started!

1. Mike Vick. Yes, I know he is an injury waiting to happen, but 600 plus rushing yards and 9 tds on the ground can not be igorned! Period!

2. Aaron Rodgers. What you can expect from this guy: 4,000 plus throwing yards, 28-35 tds, and 3-5 rushing tds on the ground with 250-350 rushing yards. Need I say more??

3. Peyton Manning. Ok, most of you fantasy studs will have a big question mark with this ranking because if you read other blogs he will not be this high. But consider this. He did not have Clark for most of the year. Collie was hurt…alot. The waiter had a bad year dropping everything thrown his way, and Peyton’s O line was really, really bad. He just got two Offensive linemen in the draft that will start. Also, he still has reggie! So with the other WR’s back, playing well and Clark back this will be a big year for Peyton… mark my words! Expect 4000 plus throwing with 30 plus tds.

One of the most important factors when preparing for the NFL Draft is knowing each and every NFL team. NFL Mocks keeps a very close eye on each team and will bring you an updated needs assessment at the end of each month. These needs will help as we prepare to make predictions for the 2011 NFL Draft. Continue to check out our team needs page to find the most recent assessments. Also after looking at the team needs move on over to the Big Board and see what prospects might fit your teams need.

Atlanta Falcons

I think after last weekend’s game against the Eagles you will be hard pressed to find a Falcons fan not wanted to upgrade their secondary. There were just to many plays made down the field and that is going to bring the spot light directly on the safeties. Now no one but the coaches know exactly what coverage they were in but the fact that Jeremy Maclin was able to get past everyone on a couple of occasions means someone was out of position. This draft has a few safeties to consider but Rahim Moore of UCLA might be the best coverage safety.

Carolina Panthers

It might be able to name the positions that the Panthers don’t need help with but I will try to narrow the needs down to 1 big time need. I think the recent benching of Jimmy Clausen is a real issue as they might have hurt the confidence of the young quarterback. Thus far he hasn’t looked very impressive and I believe that has more to do with this lack of offensive weapons than his overall skill. I am sorry but it is not going to be easy for any quarterback to succeed with an all rookie starting lineup at wide receiver. I also have to think that the Panthers will give Clausen some time before selecting another quarterback, so I think they could look to go with someone to help out like AJ Green. One thing to keep an eye on is the inevitable coaching change and how that impacts Clausen’s standing with the team. New coaches like to bring their own guys in at quarterback.

Alright I know we are an NFL Draft site but the Power Rankings are going to play an important role here at NFL Mocks. These Rankings are how we will be determining the draft order for our Mock Drafts. So take a look a the Rankings and let us know what you think, as usual I expect some good feedback!

1. New York Jets- It was a big win last night for the Jets. Then came in to a game against the Vikings who stole the headlines by acquiring Randy Moss and still stay focused and pulled off the win. They have a winning formula and that’s running the ball, playing strong defense, and not turning it over.

2. Baltimore Ravens- The Ravens keep on rolling and Joe Flacco keeps on developing. The Ravens are much like the Jets in that they can run the ball, play good defense, and limit turnovers. The only reason they are ranked #2 is because I believe the Jets secondary is a lot stronger than the Ravens. At some point that might be exploited as a weakness.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers- They have shocked a lot of people so far this year and now they get their franchise quarterback back. With this defense and the return of Big Ben, nobody is going to want to face this team.

.

4. Atlanta Falcons- This team as quietly put themselves at the top of the NFC and look every bit the part. They have won a few ugly games but a win is a win and that’s all that matters. Matt Ryan is continuing his asention to the top of the quarterback ranks.

.

5. Chicago Bears- Speak about ugly wins! The Bears quarterbacks combined for 51 passing yards and 4 interceptions! However, this defense looks to be stronger than every and it was nice to see another player emerge opposite Julius Peppers. Idonije posted a career high 3 sacks in the win and it looks like the Bears will be getting Culter back for next weeks game.

.

6. New England Patriots- Does anyone really feel that the Patriots will miss Randy Moss all that much? Moss is a great player but I think the Pats have a solid plan and they know how to win football games. Look for New England to spread the ball around more and get others involved in the offense.

7. Kansas City Chiefs- The Chiefs suffered their first loss but they still played very well against a good Colts team. The defense is for real and they will be able to keep this team in a lot of football games. They just need to find a way to score points consistently. The pressure is going to start to pick up for quarterback Matt Cassel.

8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Nobody expected this team to be any good this year, including me. However, they have been able to put together a nice start to the season and yesterdays win was a big one. I have to admit that Josh Freeman is well ahead of where I expected him to be at this point in his career.

9. Indianapolis Colts- The Colts had a good win against the Chiefs and did so by limiting the Chiefs rushing attack. However, things just don’t seem to be clicking on offense and the Colts have struggled to protect Peyton. This will be something that other teams pick up on!

10. Washington Redskins- Wins like the one the Redskins had yesterday are ones that could get a team on a good role. The defense played well all game and the offense responded when it had to. They should have some momentum going forward after those big wins against the Packers and Eagles.

Well it’s still summer time and the writers at NFL Mocks are already looking towards next year’s draft. We have our 2011 NFL Draft Prospect Big Board and many Scouting Reports. But now it’s time to get to the always controversial Mock Draft. We have spend some considerable time developing the below draft order. The order is going to bring a lot of discussion and angry feelings, but we did our best to simulate the entire 2010-2011 NFL Season. We are going to maintain this draft order for a few weeks and then do another simulation. Then when the season starts we will utilize the up to date standings to develop our Draft Order. Please keep in mind that we are early in the process and we have a long way until the 2011 NFL Draft, but let’s have some fun. As usual we love to see feedback. This is the first Mock for NFLMocks by writer Jason Madson you will notice that the Mocks will be completed by all of our staff.

1 Buffalo Bills (2-14)- Jake Locker- QB- Washington- Scouting Report

- Its no secret that the Bills need to find a long term answer at the quarterback position. As of right now Locker is our top rated quarterback and top rated player.

2 St. Louis Rams (2-14)- AJ Green- WR- Georgia- Scouting Report

- Surrounding Sam Bradford with the right pieces has to be the number one goal for the Rams organization. Green is a major playmaker and has drawn comparisons to Randy Moss.

3 Detroit Lions (2-14)- Gabe Carimi- OT- Wisconsin- Team Needs Report, Scouting Report

- Protecting Matthew Stafford should be the number one priority. He is the future of the Lions franchise. Carimi gives the Lions a super-sized security blanket for Stafford.

4 Tampa Bay Bucs (3-13)- Julio Jones- WR- Alabama- Scouting Report, Team Needs

- The Bucs need to continue to surround Josh Freeman with talented playmakers and Jones is just that. It is important to note that this pick may change depending on the development of 2010 draftees Benn and Mike Williams.

5 Cleveland Browns (4-12)- Robert Quinn- DE/OLB- UNC- Scouting Report

- Each year we see the importance of having a good pass rush and the Browns are in desperate need of a pass rush. Robert Quinn has a ton of potential and could easily be a double digit sack guy for his entire career.

6 Kansas City Chiefs (4-12)- Bruce Carter- OLB- UNC- Team Needs

- The Chiefs need to bring more heat from the outside in the 3-4. Tamba Hali can’t do it by himself, so Carter is the pick here. He adds more athleticism to the Chiefs defense.

7 Denver Broncos (5-11)- Patrick Peterson- CB- LSU – Scouting Report, Team Needs

- Champ Bailey is still a very good CB, but he is getting older. Peterson is the top corner in this draft and with all the pass happy offenses in the NFL, the Broncos could use some help.

8 Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11)- Ryan Mallett- QB- Arkansas- Scouting Report

- I’m not sold on David Garrard, and I believe that the Jaguars are about done with him too. Mallett has too much talent to pass up at this point for Jacksonville. Let’s hope the Jaguars don’t try to transform this Arkansas QB into a WR.

9 Seattle Seahawks (5-11)- Marvin Austin- DL- UNC- Scouting Report

- The Seahawks need a playmaker on the defensive line, and Austin is that guy. He will create pressure and collapse the pocket for the underachieving Seahawk defensive ends.

10 New England Patriots from Oakland Raiders (6-10)- Cameron Heyward- DE- Ohio St- Scouting Report

- Cameron Heyward is an elite talent, and he happens to fit perfectly into the Patriots 3-4 defense at the five. He can have a similar impact as Richard Seymour in this defense.

Well it’s still summer time and the writers at NFL Mocks are already looking towards next year’s draft. We have our 2011 NFL Draft Prospect Big Board and many Scouting Reports. Dont forget to check out our Team Needs and 2011 Prospect Position Rankings But now it’s time to get to the always controversial Mock Draft.

3 Detroit Lions (2-14)- Patrick Peterson- CB- LSU- Scouting Report, Team Needs Report

- The Lions have improved their offensive and the addition of Suh helps on the defensive line. The biggest problem area for the Lions is at cornerback and Peterson is the best in this year’s draft.

4 Tampa Bay Bucs (3-13)- Julio Jones- WR- Alabama- Scouting Report

- The Bucs need to continue to surround Josh Freeman with talented playmakers and Jones is just that. It is important to note that this pick may change depending on the development of 2010 draftees Benn and Mike Williams.

5 Cleveland Browns (4-12)- Robert Quinn- DE/OLB- UNC- Scouting Report

- Each year we see the importance of having a good pass rush and the Browns are in desperate need of a pass rush. Robert Quinn has a ton of potential and could easily be a double digit sack guy for his entire career.

6 Kansas City Chiefs (4-12)- Michael Floyd- WR- Notre Dame- Scouting Report

- Chief fans were pretty responsive to this selection. They feel that if their team goes 4-12 that the Chiefs will be selecting Matt Cassel’s replacement. But in my opinion they need to surround Cassel with better talent and that starts with Michael Floyd.

7 Denver Broncos (5-11)- Cameron Heyward- DE- Ohio State- Scouting Report

- The Broncos have a lot of needs on the defensive side of the ball and I think that Heyward is the best talent and at a position of need. Heyward can step in and start from day 1 at the defensive end position. The Broncos could be looking for a nose tackle but I don’t see any that are worthy of the #7 overall pick.

8 Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11)-Andrew Luck- QB- Stanford- Scouting Report

- If the Jaguars end up 5-11 there are going to be major changes and I suspect they all start at the quarterback position. I originally had Ryan Mallett in this position but I now feel that Andrew Luck is a better fit for the Jaguars. Luck will bring leadership and a style of play that fits in with Maurice Jones Drew.

9 Seattle Seahawks (5-11)- Ryan Mallett- QB- Arkansas- Scouting Report

- Coach Pete Carroll is a big personality and loves big plays and nobody can provide big plays like Mallett. Just go back and watch some film on Mallett and you will see a lot of deep down the field passes. I am not sold on Charlie Whitehurst and that is why I went with Mallett here.

10 New England Patriots from Oakland Raiders (6-10)- Gabe Carimi- OT- Wisconsin- Scouting Report

- The Patriots want to continue their run of winning and to do that they need to sure up the offensive line. Adding Carimi will enable them to do just that.

I will be the first person to tell you that I think Josh Freeman is overrated. The Kansas State quarterback was never even mentioned among the greatest quarterbacks in college football, but now teams are considering burning a first round pick on him. It’s incredible that a guy like Freeman went from 6 TDs, 15 INTs in his freshman season in 2006 to a possible first round paycheck in the NFL. Last season he played well, throwing 20 TDs and 8 INTs.
