2011 NFL Mock Draft: 12/30/10

As we head into another weekend of NFL football we are getting a clearer picture of where some teams will be selecting in the 2011 NFL Draft. Here at NFL Mocks we love to bring you updated Mock Drafts because it gives you a look at what your team could possibly add in the offseason. Below is the most recent mock by Site Director and Lead Scout Jon Dove. Be sure to check our our Big Board, Team Needs, and Scouting Reports. You can also check out DCSports Report’s mock draft database to compare this mock to others out on the web.

1. Carolina (2-13)- Andrew Luck- QB- Stanford

- There are a lot of people in the NFL anxiously awaiting Luck’s decision and the Panthers are on the top of that list. However, the Panthers might be relieved if Luck decides to return to Stanford. This would allow them to move forward with Jimmy Clausen and address another of their many needs. With that being said I am not sure anyone is going to be happy to miss out on a prospect like Luck.

2. Denver (4-11)- Patrick Peterson- CB- LSU

- This pick is going to depend a lot on the coaching staff brought in but I doubt they will go any direction other than defense. At this point I am assuming they will remain a 3-4 defense and therefore address the cornerback position. Peterson is an exceptional athlete that will remind a lot of people of Champ Bailey in his younger years.

3. Cincinnati (4-11)- AJ Green- WR- Georgia

- The more and more I think about this pick the better I feel about AJ Green going to the Bengals. The problem right now with mocking the Bengals is that they have invested a lot of picks at along the defensive line so I don’t see them going with a Da’Quan Bowers. Green is going to be a game breaker and spell the end of the Ochocinco era in Cincinnati.

4. Buffalo (4-11)- Da’Quan Bowers- DE- Clemson

- I make this selection with the hope that the Bills go forward with a 4-3 defensive alignment. Bowers has shown that he can rush the passer as well as hold strong against the run. I feel it would be a mistake to ask him to play outside linebacker although he has the athletic ability to do so.

5. Arizona (5-10)- Ryan Mallett- QB- Arkansas

- The Cardinals need to address their quarterback situation and I am not among those that believe in John Skelton. I also feel that they will have a hard time finding a long term solution in the free agent/trade market. Mallett is a strong armed quarterback that will help utilize the ability of Larry Fitzgerald. There is not a player available at the other positions of need (OL and LB) that I would draft in this position. You could see them go in the direction of Prince Amukamara.

Updated 2011 NFL Mock Draft: 12/02/10

Here is the latest 2011 NFL Mock Draft by Lead Scout and Site Director Jon Dove. This draft utilizes our projected draft order that can be seen here! Also in consideration for each pick was the team needs articles developed by the NFL Mocks staff that you can see HERE. Be sure to stop by our Big Board to see where we have each prospect ranked and also our Scouting Reports.

1. Carolina Panthers- Andrew Luck- QB Stanford

- This is going to be a interesting dilemma for the Panthers if they land the #1 overall pick. It’s highly likely they will have a new coaching staff that needs to make a decision on Jimmy Clausen. My gut feeling is that the new regime will not pass on a talent like Andrew Luck.

2. Cincinnati Bengals- Marcel Dareus- DL Alabama

- As terrible as this season has been I don’t see the franchise moving on from Carson Palmer and they added offensive talent last offseason. Maybe they go with a receiver like AJ Green but Dareus makes the most sense to me. They have a lot of picks invested in defensive ends so getting an interior guy that can hold strong against the run and create pressure would take this defense to the next level.

3. Buffalo Bills- Patrick Peterson- CB LSU

- The Bills will add a quarterback during this draft but here at #3 it would be a reach for Ryan Mallett. If your a Bills fan you will be very happy with Peterson because he gives you a true shut down corner and a playmaker on special teams. This pick is made with the idea that Peterson is the best player available at a position of need. They could look to add a DE like Bowers but they need to figure out their defensive scheme before they start adding linemen and linebackers.

4.Detroit Lions- Prince Amukamara- CB Nebraska

- There is going to be a lot of debate up until the draft about who is the better corner, Peterson or Amukamara. The Lions will be happy with either player as they add more and more talent to the defensive side of the football.

5.Denver Broncos- Da’Quan Bowers- DE Clemson

- I struggled to make this pick for the Broncos as they have a lot of needs in many different areas. Bowers has the ability to play the defensive end position in either the 3-4 or 4-3, with his best fit being the RDE in a 4-3 scheme. However, the Broncos need to add talent on defense and they don’t come much more talented than Bowers.

NFL Power Ranking: Week 13

Here is our updated power rankings! Can you believe we are so far along in the season? It has gone to quick! This ranking was completed by staff writer Jon New.

1. Atlanta Falcons – Atlanta will move down when they stop winning. Until then they look to be as good as any team out there, and solid in all phases of the game.

2. New England Patriots – Tom Brady is starting to show his fiery self again and will no doubt be ready to go against the trash talking Jets this weekend.

3. New York Jets – The Jets are in third here because of the 9-2 teams I trust their QB the least. They can gain some separation and show what they are made of by sweeping their New England series this weekend.

4. Baltimore Ravens – The Baltimore Ravens are good. We will know how good when they play Pittsburgh this coming weekend.

5. New Orleans Saints – The Saints are showing why they were Super Bowl champs last season. They snuck by Dallas on Thanksgiving and have had a long week to prepare for a struggling Bengals team.

6. Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles have been brought back to earth after they drubbed the Redskins, but Michael Vick is still playing great and this team has as many playmakers as any team in the league.

7. San Diego Chargers – Is there a hotter team in football in November and December? You would think a team in a warm climate would struggle in the cold but Phillip Rivers has this team on his shoulders. Once again we ask…is this the year the Chargers break through?

8. Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers played their best team football the 4 weeks Big Ben was suspended. Since his return they have won but have not looked great. A big test awaits them this week against Baltimore.

9. Chicago Bears – Their defense is fantastic and is carrying this team. That could come in handy down the stretch and come playoff time. Their offense is their weakness but at 8-3 who is complaining.

10. Green Bay Packers – Obviously pretty banged up the Packers are getting better and despite a loss this last weekend to Atlanta are a team with a stud QB that no one wants to play.

NFL Power Rankings: Week 12

Here is our updated power rankings! Can you believe we are so far along in the season? It has gone to quick!

1. New England Patriots- The Patriots have continued their move to the top team in the NFL. Brady has been very sharp and the collection of role players have infused a must in attitude. You have to love watching Woodhead score a touchdown and then make a tackle on the ensuing kick off.

2. New York Jets- Some how the Jets keep pulling off these nail bitters but that is the mark of a good team. However, I do have some concerns about the offensive production. If they face a team that puts some points up on their defense they could struggle to catch up.

3. Atlanta Falcons- The combination of Roddy White and Matt Ryan is defiantly in the discussion for the best young duo in the league. This is going to be a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs.

4. Baltimore Ravens- The Ravens defense has taken some criticism this season but they are still creating turnovers. The key to this team is going to be how well Joe Flacco finishes down the stretch.

5. Philadelphia Eagles- Mike Vick looks like the real deal. There are many defensive coordinators having a lot of sleepless nights! However, with his playing style you always have to worry about injuries.

6. New Orleans Saints- The Saints are starting to reach their stride as they make their playoff push. The defense continues to be very aggressive which helps the offense keep the pressure on.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers- The Steelers just pounded a much improved Oakland team. The Steelers defense is the stuff championships are made of so Pittsburgh fans should be optimistic.

8. Green Bay Packers- Green Bay has endured through major injury crisis and look to be a potential playoff threat. Aaron Rodgers has looked much better the last few games improving on his early season accuracy struggles.

9. Chicago Bears- I know the Bears beat Miami with their 3rd string quarterback but they did what they were suppose to do, shut him out! If Jay Cutler can take care of the football this defense will take them places. Does anyone else feel that Chicago is the best fit for Cutler, because the defense makes up for his mistakes by creating turnovers of their own.

10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- This team can’t be for real, can they? I am really a big supporter of what Raheem Morris has done with this team. The players really respond to his style of coaching.

Atlanta Falcons

Nothing has changed about the Atlanta Falcons’ pass defense this year. They upgraded with Dunta Robinson, but they’re still ranked 23rd against the pass prior to the start of week 11 games. Brent Grimes and Brian Williams aren’t enough to help on the opposite side from Robinson. Safety could use an upgrade as well. Offensive tackle Tyler Clabo and guard Harvey Dahl could leave as free agents. Offensive line may be addressed as well. Blogging dirty, the fansided Falcons blog lists these as the needs for the Falcons in the upcoming draft: Agree?
–Early rounds: DL, OL, DB
–Later rounds: WR, RB, LB

Carolina Panthers

Since Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore haven’t showed much promise at all this year, quarterback wouldn’t be a bad idea to target. They like their young receivers, but another one may be able to help more. Tight end Jeff King’s contract will be up and they could use a better tight end than what they have other than him anyway. Defensive line needs major upgrades as well. A linebacker and corner may need to be added as well since linebacker Thomas Davis and corner Richard Marshall are due to be free agents, too.

Updated NFL Power Rankings: Week 10

1. Baltimore Ravens (6-2) Baltimore took care of the Dolphins at home and stopped Miami’s four game road winning streak. They appear to be the best the NFL has to offer, but this season that isn’t a vote of much confidence.

2. New York Giants (6-2) The Giants put on a clinic against Charlie Whitehurst and the Seahawks. There is no doubt now that they are the best the NFC has to offer at this point and

3. New York Jets (6-2) Big win for the Jets against the Lions. They didn’t play well enough for three and a half quarters to deserve to win, but made plays when they needed to and cashed in on their opportunities.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) The Steelers are winning games but they aren’t looking very dominate in doing so. They capitalized on Cincinnati’s mistakes Monday but was unable to win convincingly

5. New England Patriots (6-2) New England looked absolutely terrible against a tough Browns team. Tom Brady was off all day and the defense forgot it was Sunday. Peyton Hillis had a field day running all over the Patriots defense. The Patriots will need to regroup before next Sundays showdown with the Steelers

6. Atlanta Falcons (6-2) Atlanta won another divisional game and Matt Ryan looks unbeatable at home. The Falcons are definitely in the conversation for the best team in the NFC half way through the season.

7. New Orleans Saints (6-3) The Saints took care of the Steelers and then turned around and finished off Carolina with ease. They don’t look like they have the same swagger they had last season, but the Saints have not had a Super Bowl letdown yet this season.

8. Green Bay Packers (5-3) Green Bay put on a show against a miserable Cowboys team and look to be one of the NFC’s best. The question surrounding Green Bay is whether or not they are healthy enough to finish the season on a positive note.

9. Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) Big win for Michael Vick and the Eagles against Manning and the Colts. Vick is likely playing his way to a lucrative contract after the season with his decision making and ability to create plays with his feet.

10. Indianapolis Colts (5-3) Peyton and company had a chance in Philadelphia late, but they couldn’t pull off the victory. The loss of Anthony Gonzalez to IR and a concussion to Austin Collie were to much for the Colts to overcome. Manning has done amazing things with very little talent around him, but it may be catching up to the Colts now.

Race to #1: Carolina Panthers

We have completed 6 weeks in the NFL season and while things on the top are a little uncertain we have some teams clearly in the running for the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. First I will look their chances to land the #1 overall pick, then I will talk about what they might do with that pick, after that I will talk about the state of each franchise. Look for this series of articles to continue as we move closer to naming the winner (loser) of the #1 overall pick! Be sure to check out our team needs page!

Chances for the #1 Pick: HIGH

The Carolina Panthers are one of two teams that have only 1 win and sit tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the chance at the #2 overall pick. However, I don’t think they will be in this position for long because the Cowboys have too much talent to not win a few more games this season. I also feel they have a good shot at moving up to the #1 spot because if you have watched the Bills lately you could argue they will get a win very soon. Looking down the Panthers schedule they have only two games that I feel they have a shot at winning and they are the games vs. Seattle and Arizona. Even if the Panthers win both of those games a 3 win team has a good shot to land the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
