NFL Mocks Fantasy Football League: Reviewing My Fantasy Football Selections

The NFL Mocks crew (Including myself) had a fantasy football draft on Tuesday night. This fantasy football draft took place at NFL.com and let me tell you the draft ran very smoothly, no glitches or nothing. This league is a 12 team league that included one starting quarterback, two starting running backs, two starting wide receivers, one starting tight end, one starting wide receiver/running back, one starting running back/wide receiver/ tight end, one starting defense and one starting kicker. The bench can hold up to six players.

Usually fantasy football players get hyped about having a top three pick, but not me because I was never in this situation before. In past fantasy football drafts I was always selecting toward the end of the draft. Selecting toward the end of fantasy football drafts in past years made me really strategize a perfect way to build a team when pick at the end. So, being in the top three selection this year really took me out of my comfort zone as a fantasy football player. I was excited though because I knew regardless of who I would pick I would really be getting a top flight player. I don’t want to spoil the pick right here, so with out further ado here is my third overall pick along with all my other 15 picks as well.

Colt McCoy Is Having a Nice Offseason (profootballzone.com)

According to cleveland.com Colt McCoy worked out this off-season with quarterback Brett Favre.

McCoy called Favre and asked if he could come to his hometown in Hattiesburg, Miss., to work with him on the precision scheme, one that Favre ran for 20 years. Favre obliged, and the two spent about four days together pouring over the offense and throwing passes.

“Since I couldn’t get coached, it was a great opportunity to pick the brains of a guy who’s played in this system for 20 years,” McCoy said through a team spokesperson. “It was a chance for me to get a lot of questions answered. We worked on footwork, progressions, reads and things like that. It was definitely a positive trip.”

The Cleveland Browns haven’t had a lot of success since returning to the N.F.L., but at least one man (Vic Carucci) that could change in 2011.

The inexperience of first-year coach Pat Shurmur figures to be mitigated by the fact that he fully shares the offensive vision that Mike Holmgren managed to convey to Colt McCoy last season, even though Eric Mangini was the coach. Look for McCoy to take some big steps forward. The first two drafts of the Holmgren era appear strong. The 2010 draft class, highlighted by defensive tackle Phil Taylor, gives new defensive coordinator Dick Jauron more of the tools he needs to effectively lead the conversion from a 3-4 to a 4-3 scheme. Whether all of this is enough to break through the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens ceiling in the AFC North remains to be seen. But the Browns should put some pretty good dents in it.

Could Plaxico Burress be back in a Giants uniform? (supermediablog.com)

As most of you may know by know, Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to weapon charges. After a long two years, Plaxico Burress will be getting out of prison on Monday. Now what does this mean for his football career once he gets out? Well he has already said to former head coach Bill Cowher that he would play again and that he is keeping in football shape while his tenure in prison. Will he draw interest from a team? I think he will for the reason of what happened to Michael Vick, where he was in prison a year for dog fighting then he turned out to be an even better Michael Vick last season. Being that, let’s take a look at five teams who may be interested in Plaxico Burress.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: 12/30/10

As we head into another weekend of NFL football we are getting a clearer picture of where some teams will be selecting in the 2011 NFL Draft. Here at NFL Mocks we love to bring you updated Mock Drafts because it gives you a look at what your team could possibly add in the offseason. Below is the most recent mock by Site Director and Lead Scout Jon Dove. Be sure to check our our Big Board, Team Needs, and Scouting Reports. You can also check out DCSports Report’s mock draft database to compare this mock to others out on the web.

1. Carolina (2-13)- Andrew Luck- QB- Stanford

- There are a lot of people in the NFL anxiously awaiting Luck’s decision and the Panthers are on the top of that list. However, the Panthers might be relieved if Luck decides to return to Stanford. This would allow them to move forward with Jimmy Clausen and address another of their many needs. With that being said I am not sure anyone is going to be happy to miss out on a prospect like Luck.

2. Denver (4-11)- Patrick Peterson- CB- LSU

- This pick is going to depend a lot on the coaching staff brought in but I doubt they will go any direction other than defense. At this point I am assuming they will remain a 3-4 defense and therefore address the cornerback position. Peterson is an exceptional athlete that will remind a lot of people of Champ Bailey in his younger years.

3. Cincinnati (4-11)- AJ Green- WR- Georgia

- The more and more I think about this pick the better I feel about AJ Green going to the Bengals. The problem right now with mocking the Bengals is that they have invested a lot of picks at along the defensive line so I don’t see them going with a Da’Quan Bowers. Green is going to be a game breaker and spell the end of the Ochocinco era in Cincinnati.

4. Buffalo (4-11)- Da’Quan Bowers- DE- Clemson

- I make this selection with the hope that the Bills go forward with a 4-3 defensive alignment. Bowers has shown that he can rush the passer as well as hold strong against the run. I feel it would be a mistake to ask him to play outside linebacker although he has the athletic ability to do so.

5. Arizona (5-10)- Ryan Mallett- QB- Arkansas

- The Cardinals need to address their quarterback situation and I am not among those that believe in John Skelton. I also feel that they will have a hard time finding a long term solution in the free agent/trade market. Mallett is a strong armed quarterback that will help utilize the ability of Larry Fitzgerald. There is not a player available at the other positions of need (OL and LB) that I would draft in this position. You could see them go in the direction of Prince Amukamara.
