I will have another 2 round NFL Mocks Mock Draft Up. For now I will post a list of draft prospects according to my draft board. What I have seen through 4 games goes a long way in determining who should be ranked where on the draft boards. This month I will list my top 100. Then next month I will list my top 200 prospects. Then in December I will attempt to list my top 300 prospects. This draft class is much deeper than the 2011 NFL Draft Class. You will find 1st round talent in the 2nd round, 2nd round talent in the 3rd round, and so on. As teams play more games, the picture could clear up. One more thing I do before I get started is list underclassmen who I believe return to school next year. There probably will be a few names that you think are ranked way too high or way too low on this list. I said very good things about Christian Ponder and James Carpenter in my scouting reports before the 2011 NFL Draft. Both prospects may have been reaches in terms of value, but could end up being steal picks based on their huge potential as prospects.

The purpose of this list is to give you a better idea of who could go in the first few rounds. You have to account team needs and where I have a prospect on the draft board in terms of talent before you can generate a potential scenario on where to place a player in your mock draft. For example there are 95 players projected to get drafted in the first 3 rounds. I have 101 players projected to go in the first 3 rounds. One more thing I do before I get started is list underclassmen who I believe return to school next year

Top 5 Underclassmen Most Likely to Return to School

Knile Davis RB Arkansas

Tyler Eifert TE Notre Dame

Barrett Jones LT Alabama

DJ Fluker RT Alabama

Peter Konz C Wisconsin

Will it Pay-off or Will We Be a Laughingstock? (Picture Source media.scout.com)

This is slightly different than our big board because it’s based on who we think will be drafted, not where we think they should be drafted.

This was more difficult than I intially inticipated there’s about 75 players we felt were a lock and then over the past week I’ve been inserting and subtracting players I thought would be the first 100 drafted. We’ll see how it turns out. Last year the winner, Rick Gosselin had 87 right, the loser nfl draft dog had 64 right. Mel Kiper and Scouts Inc (Todd McShay) both had 80 right.

Being that I’m kind of a high-risk high reward kind of draftnik, we’ve taken a few chances. We 0nly have three safeties predicted to go in the top 100. Also only four tight ends. We’re also going to roll the dice on a few players like Jah Reid, Greg Salas, and Chris Culliver (safety) among others. One surprise pick we left out of the top 100 I wanted to include is Maryland RB Da’Rel Scott who ran a 4.35 40 yard dash and has similar numbers to Jahvid Best in college. After a twittersation with Mel Kiper Jr. though I was worried he might not make the cut. Ultimately, I think we might have gone a little light on cornerbacks and WR, which could be a mistake and a little heavy on offensive linemen, but I just feel teams will reach for offensive linemen this year. We’ll see how it all plays out.

I’m deciding to put this out today a couple days early to keep myself from going mad. I want to emphasize that this is a list of players we think will be drafted first, not players we rank as the best.

Leave us a comment or, if you want check out our brand new forums (just added last night) and start a thread on our hits and misses with our prediction of the first 100 players to be drafted.

This is FINAL

11). You’re one of the Big Board experts at drafttek…who are some of your most underrated and overrated players?

My most overrated player is Florida OG Mike Pouncey. I have Pouncey as a solid 2nd round grade but he has been garnering top 20 talk. He is not the player his brother was. He’s not as strong, not as athletic, not as good of a pass blocker, and not as technically sound. While Mike is probably a better run blocker and moves better laterally in a short zone, he struggles snapping the ball and engaging so I feel he is a pure guard, that will step in and help in the run game right away but will struggle pass blocking initially. I just don’t think he’s the kind of elite talent that you traditionally need to be in order to be taken as an interior lineman in the first round. Some other players I think are overrated are UCLA FS Rahim Moore, UCLA OLB Akeem Ayers, OT Nate Solder, and DE Robert Quinn.

Most of the guys that I had as under-rated have risen to meet my expectations so I’ll go with a few guys that have fallen down a lot of boards. Michigan State ILB Greg Jones has great tape if you look at his junior season but for whatever reason had a mediocre senior year. I never expected him to be the athlete that those outside of the Big Ten were touting him as but I’m now seeing him being rated as a 4th-5th rounder and I think that would be a major steal. Jones is still a great run defender and despite not timing overly well, he has shown he can cover RBs and TEs in college. Penn State RB Evan Royster is another guy that fits this description.

I found some interesting gems in Tony Pauline’s Insider report
The biggie is this:

“Last week in San Antonio at least six different teams said they rank Auburn quarterback Cam Newton as the number one prospect in the draft. The opinions were comprised from scouts, personnel directors and a few coaches. All had Newton rated clearly higher than Da’Quan Bowers, Nick Fairley, Marcel Dareus and competing signal caller Blaine Gabbert. We hear the Miami Dolphins have been inquiring heavily into Newton at this stage of the game.”

For all of the talk about how no QB is worth a top 10 pick from the draftnik community, it seems that N.F.L. teams, are not on board with that idea. AT LEAST 6 teams believe Cam Newon is the #1 player in the entire draft…that’s just teams that have admitted this to Tony Pauline. I thought the Newton Hype machine had died down, but it appears, that it hasn’t even yet begun. Based on a little informal poll I just did Newton was the second least likely QB to be drafted in the top 12 by our readers….but maybe it’s just time to admit that regardless of how much people hate mocking high potential/high busts players to our favorite teams picking high…it’s going to happen.

I’m going on a not-so-bold prediction: Someone’s going to fall in love with Cam Newton (for good reasons) and take him in the top twelve.

Pauline, also mentions that Newton seems unlikely to throw at the combine

More Draft related news after the jump (Amukamara not a top 10 prospect? Jimmy Smith Rising? Mikel LeShoure and DeMarucs Love)

Question: What has been your most memorable College Football experience?

Answer: My most memorable experience in college football is hard to narrow down in one answer. There were great wins at Nebraska, Texas and at home against Texas Tech and also a bowl win against Minnesota in the Insight Bowl in 2009. But the most meaningful to me is being elected a captain two years in a row (Jr and Sr year) by my teammates, love their confidence and trust in me for that honor.

Question: Who was the best player you faced during your College Football career?

Answer: Best player I faced on defense is Ndamakong Suh.
