2011 Outcome (8-8)

The Cardinals were 1-6 and 2 things were on the horizon: Whisenhurst being dangerously close to being fired and the Cardinals being in the running for Andrew Luck. The next 9 weeks brought a 7-2 record. Most of those wins came from John Skelton. The Cardinals paid good money and draft picks to acquire Kevin Kolb from the Eagles…but 2nd year backup Skelton had 6 of the wins. While his statistics weren’t noticeably different the results were. Where do the Cardinals go from here?

Coach Seat Temperature

Ken Whisenhunt has a 40-40 record with the Cardinals. While most franchises would not be too happy the Cardinals were not most teams. Whisenhunt has done a tremendous job reviving this dead franchise. Also the loss of Warner set them back after a Super Bowl appearance. I think Whisenhunt is perfectly safe for the moment. DC Ray Horton did a fabulous job with what he had. OC Miller might be taking a back seat to old OC Todd Haley.

The Arizona Cardinals have really been coming on strong in the second half of the season winning five of their last six games, but this is not a team that is devoid of needs. I really liked what the Cardinals did in their last draft as they stuck to the big board and got a lot of value in every round. The question for the Cardinals is whether or not they have a franchise quarterback as Kolb hasn’t been great this year. Right now the Cardinals are picking 13th. They have no second round pick because of the Kevin Kolb trade. I’ll be using our own big board to create value for the selections in the first four or five rounds (our big board is at 130 right now).

Players though have decided to return to school are not included in this mock, even though they are still on our big board (Jarvis Jones is one for example).

The scouting reports all can be found by clicking on the names, but all of our scouting reports (over a 150) are on our scouting report page

1st round: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama Crimson Tide

The Cardinals drafted Patrick Peterson last year, but imagine if they could pair him with Dre Kirkpatrick. That would instantly give the Cardinals the best combination of young cornerbacks in the entire league. I think that they Cardinals really need an offensive tackle and a outside rushing linebacker more than they need a cornerback, but the value will not be here in this draft if the Cardinals win any more games. Jonathan Martin would be ideal and maybe Riley Reiff if he’s available, but if not than the Cardinals should grab the very high upside Dre Kirkpatrick.

AFC West

Kansas City Chiefs: The NFL can certainly change quickly. The Chiefs were the AFC West 2010 Champs. In 2011, injuries have decimated this team and now their HC Todd Haley was recently fired. I think Haley is a good OC, but not a good HC. He lacks the ability to remain consistent in his day to day approach. Injuries were a huge detriment this season with season ending injuries to Matt Cassell, Jamal Charles, Tony Moeaki, and Eric Berry. That is a lot of talent on the IR. Currently at 5-8 they are not mathematically out of the playoffs but they are not going to make it in this year. They play the Packers and the Raiders at home before going to enver. At best the Chiefs will finish 6-10 and a good chance of improving next year.

Well I missed out on the first three games of this week and being busy on Thursday I didn’t get a chance to set my lineup and put in Laurent Robinson and it might cost me this week.

I’m not going to get crazy with it, but here are some players I like week and some others I don’t.

Start:

Quarterback:

Tim Tebow, Denver

This is a huge game for the Chargers and while they are ranked highly vs the pass in terms of yards per game, anyone who has watched the Broncos knows that their secondary is struggling. They got light up by the Jets woeful passing game, the Raiders passing game, and everyone else recently (and have given up more passing touchdowns than anyone else in the league-19) Tebow should be able to get his fair share amount of points and could rush for a touchdown or two.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta

I think Ryan a lot this week. The Vikings have given up 19 passing touchdowns this season and the Falcons have some weapons who can make the Vikings pay. I don’t think Ryan is a must start every week, but I like him a lot this week.

Matt Moore: All of a sudden Matt Moore has looked like a competent, athletic, accurate QB. He has Miami on a two game win streak and many wonder is this a streak or a trend? It is a streak Miami fans. Winning at Kansas City and at home versus the Redskins is nice but he was quiet for far too long. Moore is a very solid backup QB who can get you by if you need him but he is not a starting QB. Will not last

Today the New York Giants fly out to Arizona to take on the Arizona Cardinals. The New York Giants are coming fresh off a big win vs their rivals the Philadelphia Eagles, for their first win vs the Eagles in the last six games. The Giants are widely considered the more talented team, but will there be an emotional let down this week after they travel across the country to take on an ‘inferior’ opponet. Vegas thinks so as of the time of writing this (Friday) the Giants are only -1 vs the Cardinals.

As always here at NFLmocks were always interested in the younger players, so we’ll focus on them.

Injury Report:

New York Giants

The Giants are starting to get a little healthier. Even though Justin Tuck has said he “feels like crap” and has a groin injury and a lingering neck stinger, he’s likely to suit up on Sunday. Osi Umeniyora also expects to make his season debut. Hakeem Nicks is also proable to play.

This past Sundays game performance by the Dallas Cowboys is only the latest of end results that left so much to be desired by fans.

Dating back to the 2009 wildcard round of the playoffs against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles to be exact. The 34-14 victory over the Eagles at Cowboys Stadium was truly that last time Cowboy fans had anything to be excited about.

Of course there was week 3 last season in which the Cowboys completely dominated the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium which gave fans hopes of turning around a 0-2 start by the Cowboys. Three weeks later Tony Romo is sacked while playing the New York Giants, breaks his collar bone, and is lost for the season amidst a 1-5 start.

Fast forward to September 11th, 2011. Opening day in the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys travel to New York to face the Jets on Sunday night football. On a night in which for three quarters of the game the Dallas Cowboys was shocking a nation and readily handling the New York Jets at the new Meadowlands Stadium. Everyone knows exactly what happened during the final quarter of the game. especially so are the Dallas Cowboys players, coaches and fans.

The colossal meltdown by Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys leads to this one burning question that seems to be eating at the football soul of everyone to ever rep Dallas Cowboys blue and silver. … [visit site to read more]

The power rankings below are strictly based off of week one performances. These power rankings should look a lot different once we move later into the season.

Here are the NFL power rankings for week 1:

32 Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs deserve to be the worst team on every single power ranking that comes out today. They got shut down by one of the worst teams in the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Chiefs offense made the Bills defense looked like the Ravens and the Chiefs defense made the Bills offense look like the Packers. Maybe it’s just the Bills are getting better, but it’s still no excuse for the horrible loss they suffered against them.

31. Indianapolis Colts

You can’t blame Kerry Collins two fumbles for the loss against the Houston Texans on Sunday. More of the loss should be put on the running game and rush defense. They ran the ball for only 64 yards and allowed a player that goes by the name of Ben Tate, not Arian Foster, run for 116 yards and a touchdown.
