Dre Kirkpatrick has terrific physical ability and could be a top 10 pick

The Bowl season has come and gone and there were a lot of players who had big time performances, let’s have a final recap bowl season of stock up.

Let’s start with the most recent the title game:

Alabama DL Nick Gentry

Heading into the Bowl game Gentry was a completely forgotten man who at best might have gotten a training camp invite. Now it looks like he could have worked himself into the day three conversation. He showed an impressive first step and played with good leverage. I think he might get drafted in round 6 or 7 now, and at the is almost guaranteed some training camp invites off that impressive bowl performance.

Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick

People have been up and down on Kirkpatrick all season, but he’s solidified his top 15 grade for me in this game. He has ideal length, speed. He was a demon on special teams and completely shut down Rueben Randle (even if that was in large part because of Quarterback play). Kirkpatrick is the kind of big physical cb who can match up with the big physical wide receivers of today’s N.F.L.

Courtney Upshaw Might be the Best 34 OLB prospect in this draft

We here at NFLmocks are huge fans of the nfl draft. No game this bowl season has had the wealth of prospects, especially ond defense that the National Championship Game provides. Yesterday I took a look at the Alabama Offensive linemen and LSU Tigers defensive linemen who will play in the N.F.L. in the next two (or three as many are redshirt sophomores).

This morning want to take a look at another position that has a ton of talented prospects, and that is the Alabama Crimson Tide Linebacker corps. Sayre will have more on this game today as well.

The Crimson Tide have an excellent linebacker corps, the best in the nation led in the middle by Dont’a Hightower.

In the 2010 College Football season Hightower was a bit banged up and struggled at times, but this year he has been terrific for the most part and worked himself back into the first round conversation. Hightower is a very smart football player who will be responsible for making a ton of checks for the defense in this game. Hightower also has terrific size for a linebacker at 6’4 260 pounds. Hightower is extremely aggressive and physical and can play any number of spots in any number of defenses at the N.F.l. level. The thing that scouts will need to be sure of on Hightower are two fold: first can he play sideline to sideline in the N.F.L? Does he have the necessary speed and agility? And second. Will his body hold up? If so, Hightower should be drafted before the end of round two. On the season Hightower has 89 tackles, 9.5 TFL and 3 sacks.

6’3” 245 Lbs   40 time: 4.50
Johnson is only a junior and is extremely versatile as a linebacker  prospect. He has played all the LB positions in Alabama’s 3-4 defenses
which will help tremendously at the next level. Solid player with good size and is a bit overshadowed by elite LB’s on Alabama’s team.
Described by coaches as a “sponge” and displays team first attitude and is eager to learn. Is rated as an inside backer by some and an
outside backer by others and could play both. His speed and lateral movement will likely land him at outside linebacker in the NFL. He
hasn’t announced intentions of entering the draft and would benefit from returning for senior year.

quickness and displays adequate cover skills. Solid Tackler, good pop and drives through to the ground, wraps up nicely.

Vlachos has started 35 straight games. A favorite to win the Remington Award for nations top Center. Vocal leader on and off the field,
Exceptional character, cerebral player, intelligent and respected by teammates. Vlachos makes all the calls on the line and has done an
exceptional job even through changing O-line coaches this year.  Considered one of the strongest players on the team.

PROS:
Vlachos is a student of the game and he has great work ethic in the film room and on the field. Low base/pad level, able to get under
defenders and gains leverage quickly. Snaps the ball and gets hands on the defender quickly in one motion. As technically sound as any center
in the game and remains very coachable. . High character, no off field issues, plays smart and his intelligence makes up for his lack of height. Draws praise and respect from coaches and teammates.

Pros:  Versatile has played guard, LT, center and also plays Right tackle…mirrors defender well…really has a good ability to get to the second level…blocks to the whistle…maintains pretty good leverage…good foot work…good bulk…good football intelligence…pretty good athlete, underrated athleticism…I think he can play tackle in some systems. but he could really excel at guard, especially in a system that does a lot of pulling and trapping…holds his ground well vs the bull rush
