Luke Kuechly could be one of the best linebacker prospects to come along in a while

2 Montel Harris, Running Back, 5’10″ 207 (Senior)

Montel Harris suffered a minor setback in mid-August when he had to undergo an arthroscopic surgery on the knee he injured in November, 2010, but he will only miss three or four weeks. My hope is that Harris doesn’t see a ton of the field this year, mainly because he’s already received so much attention at BC in his three years there. He has already become the school’s all-time leader in rushing attempts as well as 100 yard performances, and he is second on the all-time list with 3,600 rushing yards. He has not been overly active in the passing game, but he is a very well-built runner with good vision. Doesn’t often go down on initial contact and is slippery between the tackles. Obviously he is a good finisher, as he ranks third in Boston College history with 27 career rushing touchdowns. He is not the type of player you can arm tackle whatsoever. Lots of mileage on him already, and he will have to learn to be effective in a rotational/reserve type of role, something that he could be well-prepared for after this year at BC.

2012 NFL Mock Draft 2 Rounds

Luck seems to be a lock for the number one pick. The Big Question is, Who's going to be drafting him (Picture source tommeltonscouting.wordpress.com)

Round 1

1. Washington Redskins Andrew Luck QB Stanford Andrew Luck has to be the favorite to go #1 overall. Washington finished at the bottom of my 2011 NFL Power Rankings.

2. Miami Dolphins Matt Barkley QB USC Matt Barkley plays in a pro style offense at USC. His quick release made offensive lineman like Matt Kalil and Tyron Smith look better than they actually are. Barkley was the #1 recruit in the country coming out of high school and was the original favorite to go #1 overall back in 2009. Luck’s breakout year in 2010 before returning to school has now made Luck the favorite to go #1 overall, but I see both quarterbacks going early.

USC is bowl ineligible so Matt Barkley would be wise to jump ship to the NFL in 2012 and in the end that is what I believe he will end up doing.

Chicago Bears

The Bears got to sit this week and watch their potential opponents for their upcoming playoff game. While their playoff opponent (Seattle) wasn’t determined til the last game this past Sunday, their off-season needs have been well known. The Bears have been getting older at key parts of both offensive and defensive lines and with their first 1st round pick in a couple of years they have a chance to address those concerns. For as much flax as the offensive line has gotten this season, a lot of credit goes out to the players and Coaches Martz and Tice for finding a way to make it work. That said, a talent upgrade is needed at left tackle and two of the three interior line positions have starters that are at least 32 years old and battling injuries in the past year. On the defensive line, Tommie Harris is on his last legs and a playmaker on the inside of the D-Line to pair with Peppers and Idonije would go far in upgrading the “Monsters of the Midway”. The question is, which side of the line to the try and upgrade first?

Round 2: Chris Hairston, OT, Clemson

Well it’s the mid-way point and the writers at NFL Mocks are keeping an eye towards next year’s draft. We have our 2011 NFL Draft Prospect Big Board and many Scouting Reports. Dont forget to check out our Team Needs and 2011 Prospect Position Rankings But now it’s time to get to the always controversial Mock Draft.   Once the season starts the order will slowly shift based on actually draft ranking at the time of the mock. An”if the draft was today…” segment if you will. We’ll be sticking with the seniors only til junior begin to declare. There will be a few eligible players that people will be surprised when they don’t come out. This mock was completed by staff writer Josh Deceuster.

1         Buffalo Bills – Jake Locker, QB Washington Team Needs

- Hasn’t had the best senior season or supporting cast, but he still has three games to get bowl eligible, the Senior Bowl and combine.He is still the highest rated senior quarterback and the position has tremendous value at the top of the draft. Locker has first rate intangibles and the athleticism Bills coach Chan Gailey likes in his QBs. Hopefully he gets healthy enough to play this week.

2         Carolina Panthers - Robert Quinn, DE North Carolina Team Needs

- Quinn is our first underclassmen to be coming out as he has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA and won’t be able to play college ball again. Quinn is best suited as a 4-3 DE, who is lean at a listed 270 and has the potential to get even stronger. He’s a local product and would be a best player available option and someone to excite the fan base. The Panthers need the best talent they can get this high in the draft.

3         Dallas Cowboys - Prince Amukamara, CB Nebraska Team Needs

- There is some young talent on the Cowboy roster, but Newman is getting older and no one there is going to be a dominate corner back. Pass defense has been an issue and corner is a value position this high in the draft.

4       Cincinnati Bengals – Adrian Clayborn, DE Iowa Team Needs

- This senior class doesn’t have a lot of highly rated offensive skill position players, and I am not sure there is any one player that could get Carson Palmer to play better. As long as Marvin Lewis is there Palmer will get at least another year. They are just one year removed from being the AFC North champs. The Bengals have been offensive minded the past couple of drafts and if the same staff is together, than they may start picking for the defensive side and Clayborn could play at every spot on their defensive line.

5         Detroit Lions – Derek Sherrod, OT Mississippi State Team Needs

- The Lions are like the Panthers in that they could use top talent at just about every position. Sherrod is a fast rising senior tackle and if he continues his rise in the offseason, he could be the highest ranked tackle which would increase his value even more. The Lions should be doing what ever possible to keep Stafford upright and healthy.

6         San Francisco 49ers – Allen Bailey, DE/DT Miami Team Needs

- San Francisco misses out on their top need at quarterback and a 5-tech DE doesn’t have this high a value (i.e. Tyson Jackson), but the 49er defense is getting older and is having trouble getting stops when they need them.

7         Denver Broncos - Cameron Jordan, DE/DT Cal Team Needs

- Denver is also getting old on their defensive line and Jordan has the talent and experience playing in a 3-4 defense. He may be more athletic than his former team mate Tyson Alualu, who went 10th to Jacksonville last year.

8        Arizona Cardinals – Bruce Carter, OLB North Carolina Team Needs

- Carter is a speedy linebacker who probably fits better in a 4-3 scheme, but could be used on the outside in a 3-4 scheme as well. The Cardinals are linebacker deprived after losing key veterans and having recent picks not developing fast enough.

9         Minnesota Vikings – Gabe Carimi, OT Wisconsin Team Needs

- Another team that will benefit from a couple of underclassman quarterbacks declaring because there might not be much otherwise. Talent and youth along the offensive line is also a big need and Carimi is a big talent. His main issues, like his foot work, are things that can improve with coaching. Gabe has the athletic ability to play at both tackle spots and the potential to be a pro bowl player.

10     Cleveland Browns – Von Miller, OLB Texas A&M Team Needs

- The Browns don’t have a consistent threat to the quarterback from the outside. Miller can be a dangerous weapon, but will need to add some weight while keeping the speed.

Top Prospects Key Weekend Matchups: Week 7

Each week NFL Mocks will release an article discussing the top prospect match-ups of the weekend.   We hope to show you what match-ups you should keep an eye on and what would help or hurt that prospects stock. We encourage you to take a look at these match-ups and watch closely on Saturday to see who comes out on top. We will discuss the results of those match-ups on Sunday.

Game: #12 Arkansas @ #7 Auburn

Where to Watch: Saturday October 16th, 3:30pm CBS

Prospects: QB Ryan Mallett vs DT Nick Fairley

Thoughts: Mallet has the Razorbacks playing well, but he has still had his struggles. Three picks against Alabama handed them a loss and he was shut out of the end zone in the second half against Texas A&M. In a 24-17 win, Arkansas scored 21 of those points in the first half and the FG came mid way through the 3rd. That kind of offensive output won’t get them a win at Auburn. Mallet’s footwork should be put to the test as Nick Fairley is having quite a season with 12.5 TFL and 5 sacks so far. He and the rest of the Tiger line will be moving the pocket and Mallet will have to make adjustments.

How they raise their Stock: Mallet just needs to limit his turnovers. Preferably none, especially on the road. While his completion percentage is looking good, he still misses the strike zone on throws and needs to show more polish on his ball placement. Fairley needs to continue to be disruptive in the backfield and I think he can get a couple of sacks on Mallet.

Game: #1 Ohio State @ #18 Wisconsin

Where to Watch: Saturday October 16th, 7pm ESPN, ESPN3.com
