Now that the New England Patriots have moved on from Antonio Brown, they should give rookie wide receiver Jakobi Meyers an opportunity to shine.

When the New England Patriots placed Antonio Brown into their lineup last week, it forced rookie Jakobi Meyers to the inactive list. Now, with Brown out of the picture, the Patriots should look to get Meyers more involved in the offense.

Meyers, an undrafted rookie out of NC State, impressed throughout training camp and the preseason, consistently making plays in the passing game. He is not the fastest or most athletic receiver on the team, but Meyers is a reliable target who knows how to get open and consistently catches the ball. He also showed a nice rapport with Tom Brady before the regular season started.

The Pats will likely go into Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets with Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Phillip Dorsett as their top-three receiver. However, Meyers is now the logical fourth wide receiver on the roster and he has earned an opportunity to get on the field.

Meyers was originally a quarterback when he arrived at NC State but ended up making a quick move to wide receiver after he showed up on campus. Despite the position change, Meyers still sees the field like a quarterback, knowing how to manipulate the defense and consistently finding open space all over the field.

He is an extremely smooth and efficient route runner who makes his cuts quickly and does a great job of finding his way into the soft part of the defense. He also tracks the ball in the air exceedingly well, gets in position to make the catch quickly and shows soft hands.

Meyers is never going to wow you athletically, but he is a solid target who can make an impact in the Patriots passing attack. Brady and the Patriots love these guys who simply know how to get the job done and are always where they need to be. Meyers is a perfect fit for their offense and will be able to make an impact if given an opportunity to do so.
