Another starter on the Cowboys defense finds himself in trouble this offseason

Headlines containing the words “Cowboys starter arrested/suspended for XYZ” are becoming fairly common in recent years. This time it’s free agent signee Nolan Carroll, who was busted for DWI early Monday morning.

According to WFAA Dallas police arrested the 30-year-old cornerback early Memorial Day morning after he committed a traffic violation. Carroll posted bond at 2:45 p.m. Monday afternoon and was released.

Last week Cowboy David Irvine was suspended by the NFL for four games regarding the use of a prohibited substance.

Carroll was a fifth-round draft pick out of Maryland by the Miami Dolphins in 2010, and signed a free agent contract with Philadelphia prior to the 2014 season.

Departing Philadelphia this offseason, Carroll signed a three-year contract worth $10 million with Dallas. The Cowboys can maneuver out of the cornerback’s contract after one year if desired.

Carroll is due to start for Dallas, who lost Brandon Carr and Mo Claiborne this offseason. The team drafted Chidobe Awuzie and Jordan Lewis in the early rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft with the hopes of them developing behind Carroll and Anthony Brown.

He’s the sixth Cowboy to have been officially arrested while still with the team since 2012, which does not include Greg Hardy or Ezekiel Elliott, who have been either investigated or acquired during a legal proceeding.

Elliott, Dallas’ second-year running back, is currently under investigation by the NFL for multiple domestic incidents since coming out of Ohio State.

Carroll is one full season removed from ankle surgery after fracturing it in November of 2015.
