Recently retired NFL wide receiver Steve Smith took to Twitter and had a pretty hilarious burn of Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler…

Brock Osweiler has a legitimate chance to be the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. The former Houston Texans starter and Denver Broncos backup is on his third team in three seasons, and really is only in the running for Cleveland’s starting job because the Texans gave them a second round pick to take him off their hands.

Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver and recently retired NFL star Steve Smith took to Twitter to respond to some comments Osweiler made about why he should be the starting quarterback.

This is absolutely phenomenal. So is this:

Osweiler hasn’t been all bad in the last two seasons, but it’s hard to justify him as a starting quarterback at this point in time. He was paid a ton of money by the Texans to be their franchise quarterback without even a face to face meeting.

I still can’t get over that.

The Texans at least realized their mistake, and did what they had to do (at the expense of their 2018 Draft) to get rid of Osweiler and also move up in this year’s draft to get DeShaun Watson.

With Watson now in Houston and Osweiler now in Cleveland, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the fallout will be on the field. Given the situation in Cleveland at quarterback, there’s a pretty decent chance Osweiler will be their starter at least going into the season and the situation around him is actually pretty favorable.

Cleveland boasts a vastly improved offensive line on paper. They have some skill players with intrigue, starting with a very underrated lead running back in Isaiah Crowell. They added Kenny Britt at receiver to Corey Coleman, last year’s first rounder. They also used a first round pick on tight end David Njoku, one of the great mismatch players in this year’s class.

There will certainly be options for Osweiler to get the ball to on the field (not like there weren’t in Houston…) but the situation on the offensive line is even more favorable and Hue Jackson is a very good offensive coach.

Perhaps the stars have actually aligned a bit here for Osweiler to prove himself…
