The real question with Chip Kelly is will he be a college football or NFL analyst?

Former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is stepping away from the sidelines and entering the world of television.

ESPN announced on Friday that the 53-year-old coach will join the network as a college football analyst on Saturday pregame, halftime and wrap-up shows on ESPN2. He will also provide NFL analysis on Sundays during SportsCenter.

Formerly with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 40ers, Kelly will also appear on SportsCenter for NFL coverage on Sundays.

San Francisco fired Kelly after one season with the team following a 2-14 record with no defined quarterback.

Prior to coaching in the Bay Area Kelly was running the show in Philadelphia, leading the Eagles to a 26-21 record and one NFC East division title in three seasons.

After two years as the head coach in Philadelphia, Kelly assumed the role of head of football operations and orchestrated severe trades that pushed the organization backward.  Kelly moved franchise rushing leader LeSean McCoy for injured linebacker Kiko Alonso, and signed cornerback Byron Maxwell to a large free agent contract.

Prior to entering the NFL Kelly was a two-time PAC-12 Coach of the Year for the Oregon Ducks, and took them to a National Championship game in 2010.

Kelly had previously been rumored as a candidate for the Alabama offensive coordinator position, and the same title for the Jacksonville Jaguars during the offseason.

Kelly’s hiring at ESPN comes weeks after massive layoffs cut the number of on-air personalities at the network.
