Patrick Mahomes II and Mitchell Trubisky looking to set the new standards in the NFL Draft when it comes to small school quarterbacks

Despite the 2017 NFL Draft being weak at quarterback there is still history set to be made in Philadelphia.

Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II and North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky are projected to be two of the top three quarterbacks drafted this year. Emerging from programs not typically labeled as football powerhouses the two each have some intriguing skill sets on their side.

Along with the powerful arms and outstanding leadership, the two quarterbacks are due to make history on April 27 in the City of Brotherly Love.

If drafted in the first round, Trubisky and Mahomes would each be the first quarterback out of their respective school to be drafted in the first round.

First round North Carolina quarterback products have been limited to T.J. Yates and Ronald Curry. Mahomes would be the first Texas Tech quarterback to be drafted in the first round. Only three other Red Raiders have been drafted in the first round since the common era draft was established in 1967.

The last Red Raider to be drafted in the first round was a wide receiver, that being Raider’s vetearn Michael Crabtree.

Mahomes is not as strong of a lock to go in the first round as Trubisky, but recent reports have him going as high as 13 to Arizona.
