At a Glance

Western Kentucky’s Forrest Lamp is one of the top athletes available in the 2017 NFL Draft. Despite playing — at an elite level, I might add — the left tackle position the last few seasons, Lamp is projected by many to be guard at the next level.

Let it be known — that should not be an indictment on his skills as a tackle or his ability to play tackle in the NFL. Lamp is projected as a guard because, like Zack Martin of the Dallas Cowboys, many feel like he can be a ‘good’ tackle in the NFL but a ‘great’ guard.

A native of Venice, Florida, Lamp was an All-CUSA performer and four-year starter for the Hilltoppers, and played a total of 51 games. Mr. Consistent put up some of his best game tape against top tier competition like Alabama, firmly cementing him as one of the draft’s best offensive linemen.

I thought this was a really cool note from Lamp’s official WKU athletics biography:

"Lamp left WKU with four rings, three consecutive bowl champions, two consecutive C-USA championships and his degree from the University. In the process, he helped block for the school’s single-season record holder in passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, total touchdowns and points scored."
