Could the best NFL Draft in recent memory break a decade-long record?

In 2006 The University of Miami set the record with six players drafted in the first round. Will there be a program that sees six or more players drafted in the first round this year?

Alabama will be the closest among the Power Five schools to breaking the record, but it’s unlikely to happen in 2017.

Jonathan Allen, O.J. Howard, Reuben Foster, Marlon Humphrey, and Cam Robinson are each likely to be drafted in the first round, with Robinson being a possible exception.

Barring a major reach for linebacker Tim Williams, Miami’s record appears to be safe.

Last year Ohio State appeared destined to break the record but fell short with five: Ezekiel Elliott, Joey Bosa, Taylor Decker, Eli Apple, and Darron Lee. Talent evaluators were keeping an eye on Michael Taylor, Vonn Bell, and Braxton Miller to slip into the end of the first but each went on day two.

This year the Buckeyes appear set to see three first round picks: Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley, and Malik Hooker.

LSU will be another program celebrating heavily after the first round with Leonard Fournette, Tre’Davious White, and Jamal Adams each being projected to leave draft boards early.

Several schools are tied with five players taken in the first round, including USC’s 1968 class featuring Hall of Famer Ron Yary going first overall.

Look for Alabama and USC to compete for the record six first-round picks once again in the NFL Draft.
