Green Bay Packers defensive back Micah Hyde has out-played his fifth round draft status and rookie deal, and is set for a nice pay day in March…

Known as somewhat of a ‘tweener’ coming out of Iowa, Micah Hyde has carved himself a nice role in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay selected Hyde in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and he’s been making an impact ever since.

Starting with his rookie season where he started  three games, Hyde has missed just one game in four years with the Packers, racking up at least 55 tackles in each of those four seasons. He was always known for his physicality at Iowa, but also for his ball skills.

Including the postseason, Hyde intercepted four passes over his last seven games in 2016-17. He has eight interceptions over the course of the last three seasons (regular season) and has also proven his value to a special teams unit.

Hyde has proven his ‘tweener’ label a strength, offering exceptional versatility in the professional game. In his first two seasons in the NFL, Hyde returned three punts for touchdowns, despite not being known for his exceptional straight-line speed.

With free agency rapidly approaching, this is a player the Green Bay Packers are going to want to make a serious priority. He’s become a critical part of their defense now entering his fifth NFL season, and is only 26 years of age.

He’s instinctive:

He’s instinctive, but he also has excellent ball skills, and has dating back to his days at Iowa. Hyde is also a very good tackler, and is especially effective against the run and reading plays. One area where Hyde will struggle is against vastly superior speed, which is why the Packers have found every way to put him in position to succeed, rather than be susceptible to his lack of elite speed.

This is a player that will attract the eyes of many NFL teams when free agency opens. Obviously, the Packers would also like to keep him, but if he tests the market, going to an organization with a creative defensive coordinator who knows how to maximize talent is going to be key.
