Notre Dame has granted Malik Zaire the ability to transfer with limited conditions

Another Notre Dame quarterback will transfer after failing to win the starting job this past season. Malik Zaire has requested and received permission from Notre Dame to transfer to another program.

After being named the co-starter with Deshone Kizer to start the season, it became evident Zaire had little to no future with the Irish. While playing a limited amount of snaps over eight games this past season, Zaire was 11 of 23 for 122 yards in eight games. His lone touchdown pass came against USC in his final game.

Several programs have already been rumored to be interested in the quarterback. Florida, Pittsburgh, and Wisconsin are being heavily discussed by people within college football circles.

Notre Dame has placed restrictions on where Zaire can transfer to, most of which are on the Irish’s schedule for 2017. With the exception of North Carolina, any program scheduled to face Notre Dame next year would be excluded from signing Zaire.

Programs included in that 2017 schedule include Michigan State, Temple, Georgia, Miami, USC, NC State, Navy, Stanford, and Boston College.

Florida is already considered the favorite to land Zaire according to multiple people familiar with the situation. The Gators currently have two true freshmen (Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask) in the program, and will be looking for an experienced option.

Quarterback recruits are not leaning towards Florida at this moment, with three-star Jake Allen from Fort Lauderdale being the only commit in the 2017 class.

There are currently on other high school quarterback prospects connected to Florida for the 2017 class. The program has reportedly targeted two four-star quarterbacks for the 2018 class.
