The Bills received another substantial blow today as their second round pick, Alabama’s middle linebacker Reggie Ragland, suffered a non contact knee injury. They’re currently awaiting more tests to determine the extent of Ragland’s injury, but Rex Ryan said he was, “very concerned”.

Ryan also went on to say that the injury “looked odd” since it was a non contact injury, and also acknowledged that even though it was a non contact injury those can be the worst types.

Ragland’s injury now means that the Bills’ first two picks, him and Shaq Lawson are now out with injuries, Lawson dealing with a shoulder issue. Should Ragland’s loss be long term that would mean they’re down two inside linebackers with the loss of Kevin Reddick to an MCL Sprain.

Fortunately for them, they believe he was able to avoid ligament damage for now, which is a huge sigh of relief for the Bills team and fans. Ragland was a huge producer at Alabama tallying 220 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, an interception, four fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.

Ragland’s presence in the middle was huge for Alabama and they’re hoping he can replicate that in Buffalo. To this point, the Bills’ 2016 draft class hasn’t been panning out as well as they hoped with two injuries to their first two picks and the arrest of Jonathan Williams near the end of July.

Hopefully they can avoid a long term injury for Ragland which would thin out an already thin linebacking corp.  You can read Ragland’s scouting report here.
