Is Tennessee Titans wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham in line for a breakout season in 2016? With an improved Marcus Mariota, he should be…

It will be scary for Tennessee Titans opponents, but wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham is in line for a breakout season after a pretty good rookie year.

In his first season really ‘back’ to football after being dismissed from the Missouri Tigers’ program in the Spring of 2014, Green-Beckham averaged over 17 yards per catch as a rookie with the Titans and caught 32 passes.

Of those 32 passes, 30 went for first downs, four went for touchdowns.

He was targeted 66 times, so not everything was perfect or ideal for DGB, but the skills and size are certainly there for him to continue to make an impact and grow into a star player.

We’ve all seen the type of stardom DGB is capable of as a player, but off-field issues cut his college career short and he had to work really hard to even get himself back on a football field. It’s not easy to do what he did, even though he put himself in a situation where he wasn’t able to play ball for an entire college season.

To work your way back from a season-long suspension as a college student and just work behind the scenes while preparing for an NFL audition has got to be borderline impossible, but Green-Beckham made it happen.

At 6-5, 237 pounds, DGB is built like Calvin Johnson and runs a 4.49 second 40-yard dash. His ability to create separation with his size and speed is almost unmatched in today’s NFL, and for a young quarterback like Marcus Mariota, he’s going to be a great security blanket.

Just throw the ball up, and DGB is the most likely guy to come down with it.

When the Titans are in the red zone, this is the guy who is going to be counted on to make plays. When the Titans need a big play on third and long, this is the guy who is going to get his number called.

In year two, you want to make sure to temper expectations a bit, but as the game slows down for this kid, there’s no limit to the kind of production he’s capable of. Some compared him to Calvin Johnson, but that’s unfair. Some compared him to Randy Moss, which is also unfair. He’s his own type and will create his own legacy, but he has superstar potential and I think we’ll see more of it in 2016.
