Ever the believer, it seems Tim Tebow isn’t ready to call his NFL career finished and is willing to wait as long as he must to get another shot.

The 28-year old said as much during an interview with the New York Daily News when he was asked point blank whether he’s planning to make another comeback.

"“I’ve talked to a lot of my friends who are in the league and playing and all around, so yeah,” Tebow said when asked about the chances of playing pro football again."

However, one of the sticking points with that has been his ongoing stubbornness when it comes to the position he wants to play.  Many believe that given the kind of athlete he is, Tebow could easily forge a strong career as a running back or a tight end.  Yet the man has professed from the very beginning that the only position he will play in football is quarterback.  To his credit he’s worked tirelessly to improve on that front whether it’s quickening his throwing motion and improving mechanics, but the progress hasn’t been notable enough to stick on a roster.

Even so Tebow refuses to back down from the belief he can play the position.

"“You pursue what’s on your heart, you pursue what you’re passionate about and for me in the game of football, is the position of quarterback,” Tebow said. “You don’t do things necessarily because other people want you to, you do what’s on your heart, what you’re passionate about and that’s what I tried to do.”"

Naturally he’s leaning on history to reinforce his beliefs.  Tebow won two national championships in college as a quarterback.  He took the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in 2011 as a quarterback.  He upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild card round as a quarterback.  From his perspective all he has to do is find a team and a coach that run a system he can have success in and get an opportunity to show what he can do.

The problem is no such team may exist.

It was felt that if anybody might give him a shot it would’ve been Chip Kelly of the Philadelphia Eagles.  He’s run the read-option with tremendous success in the past and likely would’ve had all sorts of packages in mind to feature Tebow.  Still, even he didn’t end up signing him.  So where else is there?

Pretty much every other team in the league has at least one option, whether it’s a young draft pick, rising star or established veteran who would be considered favorable (and less of a distraction) than Tim Tebow.  Perhaps the only team that might hazard it would be the Buffalo Bills since they run a similar offense with a mobile quarterback in Tyrod Taylor, and Rex Ryan is all about making big moves but they just drafted Cardale Jones in the 4th round.  So even that’s razor thin.

The fact of the matter is that Tebow had a fun run in the NFL, short as it was.  He can continue to hold onto his dream of returning one day, but unless he’s finally willing to try a different position those chances have come and gone.
