Talk for the 2017 NFL draft is already going and it got a huge boost recently when one of its top projected prospects suffered a major setback via arrest.

Considered by many to be the best offensive tackle in the country and an early favorite to go in the top 10 of the 2017 draft next April, Cam Robinson out of Alabama did himself no favors at all when he was arrested for possession of a stole firearm.

"“Alabama All-SEC left tackle Cam Robinson was arrested in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, early Tuesday morning on charges of possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen gun.The stolen gun charge is a felony, while the others are misdemeanors.Teammate and backup defensive back Laurence “Hootie” Jones, who was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle Robinson was driving, was also arrested on possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon.According to multiple reports, Robinson and Jones were still in custody Tuesday morning.According to the police report, an officer approached their vehicle at a park that was closed and “detected the strong odor of marijuana.” The report alleges that a bag of marijuana and a handgun were in plain sight and a stolen handgun was found under the passenger seat.”"

Robinson has been making positive impressions on the field since he was a freshman in 2014.  He’s big, physical, nasty and more than athletic enough to handle being a tackle at the NFL level.  He fits the Crimson Tide style as a downhill run blocker, something noted draft expert Matt Miller pinpointed when talking about his top prospects for the 2017 class.

Considered what just happened with Laremy Tunsil and his draft stock following the fiasco with the gas mask and marijuana video, teams are unlikely to give Robinson much leeway for this foul-up.  Playing at such a high profile school he should’ve known better.  Dumb decisions like this can cost millions of dollars, and for what?  The thrill of carrying a gun around?

He may soon find out that it wasn’t even close to being worth it.
