After trading up two spots in order to jump the New York Giants, the Chicago Bears selected Georgia edge rusher Leonard Floyd.

The move up to number nine cost the Bears the 11th overall pick as well as a fourth-round pick this season, number 106 overall.

There had been multiple reports leading up to tonight’s draft that had the Giants coveting the Georgia product. The Bears obviously felt strongly enough about Floyd to make the deal to ensure Floyd wouldn’t be on the board for New York.

Here’s what Floyd brings to the Windy City according to our own Erik Lambert who compared Floyd to Barkevious Mingo.

"Based on physical ability, Leonard Floyd is a clear cut 1st rounder. However, his lack of proven production and inconsistency will give pause to some about whether he’s worth that risk. It all comes down to how well he takes coaching. If it’s not an issue, then he can be a great player for a long time."

Floyd adds depth to a defense desperately in need of help on two-deep depth chart. He’ll get to chase down opposing quarterbacks with fellow outside linebackers Pernell McPhee and Lamarr Houston.
