2016 NFL Draft: A pick by pick mock up for the New York Giants in this 2016 NFL Draft.

Can you believe we are only two days away from the 2016 NFL Draft?! I’m losing my mind over here! With my own spring football coming up the time has gone by so fast I can’t believe it’s already that time. Today we have the next installment to our NFL Mocks series of team mock drafts, this one being for my New York Giants.

The Giants have had some pretty good draft success in recent years, and with a very successful offseason this may be the biggest draft that Jerry Reese has ever had. They addressed some big defensive concerns by signing Olivier Vernon, “Snacks” Williams, and resigning Jason Pierre Paul all for the defensive line. Then adding Keenan Robinson for the middle linebacker spot after the retirement of Jon Beason was a big help, but not a long term solution. Finally adding extra help to the secondary by signing Janoris Jenkins was a huge signing.

This draft I see them having a nice balance of offense and defense, just filling in the last remaining pieces and going for the best value that they can. So without any further ado, let’s get this shindig started.

Linebacker. UCLA. Myles Jack. 1. player. 31. Myles Jack might just be the best overall defensive player in this draft. The only issue is how healthy he actually is. There are lots of contradicting reports on the subject and it means he may slip out of the top ten. The Giants don’t normally like to go for injury issues, but in this case it is just too good to pass up. Jack has the speed and athleticism to play anywhere in the linebacking corps. Even if he needs to be eased in his first season, they signed Keenan Robinson to be the immediate starter. Consider this a long term investment that they are hoping to pay off with one of the biggest steals in the draft.

One of the final pieces the Giants need for success is a Safety. They have the corners, they have the strong safety in Landon Collins, so why not pair up one of the best coverage safeties in this year’s class? Mills can be an immediate contributor and the pairing with Collins will be one that can last for years. That awful Giants secondary from a year ago will be a distant memory.
I will say this was not an easy pick. I can see Derrick Henry being on the board and it is very hard to pass up a talent that like that knowing the organization’s history with big running backs, such as Brandon Jacobs. I think either one would be a fantastic pick, but safety is the more pressing matter.
. Free Safety. LSU. Jalen Mills. 40. player. 31

Louisiana Tech. Kenneth Dixon. 74. player. 31. Since the Giants addressed safety in the last round and skipped over running back, it’s time to address the problems there. Rashad Jennings started coming on near the end of the year, but he isn’t getting any younger and Andre Williams has not panned out the way the team hoped he would. Welcome Kenneth Dixon, the hard nosed scoring machine from Louisiana Tech. While the pass protection is a little sketchy, the rest of his game is not. A solid runner, great footwork and ball handling, he can be developed into the lead of the Giants backfield with Shane Vareen being his running mate.. Running Back

Arkansas. Sebastian Tretola. 109. player. 31. Tretola falling to the Giants here is a gift, a much needed one that helps the entire offensive line. Gives added depth to the guard position that was a nightmare last year. With the departure of Geoff Schwartz it looked like it would be Justin Pugh looking to fill that hole, but Tretola has the skills to be an instant starter on that offensive line. Pass protection might be his rough point but as we saw in that Arkansas running game he is a mauler, just what the Giants needed.. Offensive Guard

Georgia. Malcom Mitchell. 149. player. 31. It’s about time the Giants addressed the receiver position. While they clearly don’t need a number one, they need to look at the spot opposite Odell Beckham. Victor Cruz is saying he is 100% again, but an insurance policy needs to be taken. Mitchell has the talent to go sooner, but based on the big time running system at Georgia he could very well fall this low to the Giants, giving them an experienced wide receiver to put into their depths. He has fantastic route running and very solid hands. The injury history is a concern, but for a 5th round pick I think it’s worth the risk.. Wide Receiver

31. When you get to this point in the draft you clearly are not looking for starters, but added depth and potential. Lewis has the potential to turn into a starter down the line with some more work, but in a fast paced and versatile offense like Nebraska he could prove to be a nice fit at the right tackle spot one day.. Offensive Tackle. Nebraska. Alex Lewis. 184. player

The NFC East is wide open right now, as per usual. The Giants are in a fantastic position to move up and take the division crown once again, and this is the way to do it. They have put together a very impressive offseason so far, now it’s time to finish it. Two more days, that’s all that remains. Go get your parties ready everyone.
