Le’Raven Clark, OT, Texas Tech: 2016 NFL Draft Scouting Report

facebooktwitterreddit

The 2016 NFL Draft is highlighted by several blue chip offensive lineman. With so many of them sitting at the top, the second tier guys are getting left behind in the conversation.

One of those guys who projects to be taken on the second day of the NFL Draft is Texas Tech offensive lineman Le’Raven Clark.

With three All-Big 12 selections, Clark showed the ability to be a versatile lineman at the next level. Scouts say he could either play left tackle or slide inside to guard due to his excellent lower body flexibility.

Strengths

Le’Raven Clark is very quick off of the line and engages rushers faster than most offensive tackles. That quickness was the first thing that jumped out on tape for me.

Second is his natural bend, flexibility, and wide lower body. He sets a very good base and has the footwork you’d expect for an NFL starter.

Weaknesses

I would like to see a bit more punch from Clark and be more aggressive at the point of attack. He also needs to lower his pad levels so he can keep leverage.

Often in the Texas Tech scheme Clark is asked to work backwards instead of driving forwards. That can leave him back on his heels, making his pad level issues even more dire.

If he wants to move inside to guard, he will have to adjust his angles in run blocking schemes and create better rushing lanes.

Final Verdict

Le’Raven Clark is a very versatile offensive lineman who should be taken on day two of the NFL Draft. Getting out of a Big-12 offense and into a more pro-style one might mean he has a lot of adjustments to make, but with the right NFL coaching he has the opportunity to be a quality NFL starter.
