There are plenty of questions the Chicago Bears will need to answer in the 2016 NFL draft, but anybody who understands the state of this franchise knows the conversation will begin and end at the quarterback position.  As it does with most teams.

What will they do?  Based on current projections, both for the team and the upcoming class there are five reasonably sane scenarios that could happen next April.  Here is a rundown of each of them and how they might play out.

#1:  Tank

  • Finish with three wins or fewer
  • Collect pick in the top four

Best Current Option:  Jared Goff (Cal)

Without question this is the one many Bears fans are hoping happens.  It’s been 10 years since Chicago owned a top 5 draft pick.  That was 2005, the same year Aaron Rodgers came out.  The Bears didn’t bite on him, preferring to stick with Rex Grossman and instead took Cedric Benson.  That clearly worked out for them (no sarcasm font available).

As it stands Jared Goff is gaining momentum as the top QB in the 2016 class.  He’s tall, poised, very accurate, has good arm strength and more mobility than some will realize.  The kid is a competitor who knows how to move the ball without being too reckless.  There is no questioning his skill and if his season continues on its current path, he’ll be a lock for a top 5 pick.

Chicago is 0-3 coming off back-to-back blowout losses.  So if they want him, they’re on the right track.
