It’s never an easy thing to get over, losing the best corner on a defense.  That is the reality the Dallas Cowboys must stare down.  While rookie Byron Jones prepares to try filling his shoes, the team has to consider looking outside for more help.  Here are some names available that they could consider.

Carlos Rogers

A former Pro Bowler who helped lead the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012.  He spent one season in Oakland last year.  At 34-years old, he isn’t the same player but in the right conditions has the experience and durability to hold down a spot.  Maybe he has one good year left in him on the right team.

Antoine Cason

A former 1st round pick turned career journeyman who spent times in San Diego, Arizona, Carolina and Baltimore over a six-year span.  He has good size and experience to draw on but is streaky at best, having some good games followed by terrible ones.  History shows he’ll grab a couple interceptions, but don’t expect him to lock anybody down.

Cortland Finnegan

One of the most scrappy corners to hit the NFL in years.  Finnegan didn’t always win with talent and ability but he made up for it with attitude and grit.  It droves more than a few receivers out of their mind, claiming he played dirty but the guy is physical and savvy.  Better still he knows how to operate in a 4-3 system like Dallas runs.  The trick will be luring him out of retirement.

Aaron Ross

He wasn’t a star, but Aaron Ross must’ve been able to play with some degree of success because he was a starter for both New York Giants Super Bowl teams in 2007 and 2011.  Size, athleticism and experience are all there.  Perhaps his biggest drawback is motivation.  The guy seems to struggle when his head isn’t in it.  So this would come down to how much the Cowboys trust Rod Marinelli.

Ike Taylor

He was Old Reliable for the Pittsburgh Steelers for so many years but eventually injuries began to take their old on the 35-year old.  The juice in his legs was no longer enough to hold down opposing receivers alone.  However, perhaps he might be persuaded to give it one more go in the Cowboys defense where he’d be protected more often by safety help.
