Eric Berry has beat cancer!

Just seven months from being diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer which “originates from white blood cells called lymphocytes”, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has been cleared by his doctors to return to the practice field. The Chiefs will open training camp Wednesday and expect Berry to be at practice.

Great news: Chiefs’ S Eric Berry, diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last December, has been cleared to take practice field Wednesday.

Berry was pulled away from the field to battle this rare form of cancer, which originated in his white blood cell. He ended up playing just six games in the 2015 season and was forced to leave early to begin treatment. That treatment reportedly ended successfully last month.

"After several rounds of thorough testing and a process that concluded late Tuesday evening, Chiefs safety Eric Berry has been cleared to take the practice field with the club for Wednesday morning’s practice with quarterbacks, rookies and injured players. Head Coach Andy Reid and Head Athletic Trainer Rick Burkholder will address Berry’s medical and football timeline post practice on Wednesday. Following their address, Berry will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. in the Presidential Room at Blum Union on the campus of Missouri Western State University."

While Berry’s news will be a great boost for both the Chiefs clubhouse and secondary, the announcement of Dontari Poe’s injury will still hurt the team as training camp gets underway. Poe underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back and is expected to miss the season opener, and possibly more.

On behalf of the entire NFL Mocks staff, I’d like to congratulate Eric Berry on beating his cancer and regaining the strength to get back on the field.
