NFL Head Coach Hot Seat: Mocks Roundtable

facebooktwitterreddit

As we begin to enter the 2015 NFL season, it’s time to take a look at which NFL head coach currently has the “hottest seat.” They have either not live up to the high expectations they were (fairly or unfairly) placed under by the organization and the fans or they have just run out their time with their respective team. Members of the NFL Mocks crew discussed some of the candidates for the “hottest seat” title.

Erik Lambert – Jay Gruden, WSH

I have to say Jay Gruden of the Redskins. He was already on thin ice at the end of last year and now he’s got a new GM above his head in Scott McCloughan who might have a different idea of who he wants running the team. That means Gruden better win this year or Daniel Snyder will do what he does best and change something.

Matthew Holowiak – Chip Kelly, PHI

More from NFL News

Chip Kelly’s seat has got to be on fire by this point. With all the decisions he’s made the last two years they MUST pay off this year in a big way or his career in Philly could end much sooner than he would like. On the flip side, if all these decisions pay off big then he will have arguably the safest job in the league.

Sayre Bedinger – Joe Philbin, MIA

Philbin in Miami. The Dolphins have made all the requisite moves to be a playoff team, and have waited long enough to see the Ryan Tannehill project through, not only to this point, but beyond Philbin if this winds up being his last year. I think it’s playoffs or bust for Philbin this year in Miami, and I think the Dolphins need to make some noise too.

Joe Wedra – Marvin Lewis, CIN

I have to go with Marvin Lewis. Sure, much of this lies on Andy Dalton, but the Bengals can’t go another year without winning a playoff game. Lewis needs to utilize the talent he has to win a postseason matchup and have his team live up to their talents. If he can’t do it, he won’t be back — valid or not… I like Marvin, I really do. It’s just inevitable.

A gesture all too familiar to Giants fans the past few seasons

George Stockburger – Tom Coughlin, NYG

Coughlin has one last chance to squeeze a playoff run out of Eli Manning in 2015. Whether or not he can push his team onto a hot streak in December and January at his age is a huge question mark for me.

Jonah Tuls – Chip Kelly, PHI

If the Chip Kelly experiment fails early, it could spell bad news for his job security. He made the team his way and he is going all in. Eagles either go 12-4 or 4-12 depending on what they get from Bradford and Murray if healthy.

Ryan Coon – Jim Tomsula, SF

If any coach ever had the “one and done” look…its that guy. He looks to be a stopgap until Baalke can lure someone from college ranks.
