Offensive Rookie of the Year: Melvin Gordon

I know, I know…this may seem unoriginal/predictable, but Gordon landed in an absolutely amazing situation that will set him up nicely to win the rookie of the year.

Gordon is a very talented running back, who has game changing speed and has the track record that suggests that he will succeed at the NFL.

Not only is Gordon talented, the Chargers have fairly talented offensive pieces around Melvin Gordon, which will further his chances of winning this award.

Normally when an offensive rookie is this hyped to succeed at the NFL level, it is usually in an Andrew Luck-esque situation, where the rookie will be the center of the offense, but Gordon’s situation is very different in that regard.

Regardless of how talented Gordon is, the San Diego Chargers are still Phillip Rivers team. This is a good thing for Gordon because teams won’t be able to stack the box against the Chargers to shut him down because Phillip Rivers is more than capable of tearing a team apart in the passing game.

With weapons like Antonio Gates, Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd, Stevie Johnson and Jacoby Jones on the outside and an improved offensive line to open up holes for him, Gordon should find tons of space to run the ball and pick enough yards and touchdowns to earn the 2015 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

With all this being said, their are some other very talented offensive rookies who will challenge Gordon for this title, so Gordon is not a lock to win this award by any means, but it’s fair to say that Gordon may have the largest head start in this race.
