Everett Golson Appears to be Heading to Florida State

It’s not fair to assume anything is “set in stone” with youngsters in college football deciding their future, but it appears Everett Golson will be transferring to Florida State to finish out his career in the ACC with the Seminoles.

Other than the fact that it simply makes sense, we got this report on the 14th… And with all signs pointing towards a transfer to FSU, the report seems to be locked and confirmed:

If the South Carolina based radio station has had this scoop all along and this will be the move, it’s a major addition to Jimbo Fisher’s team.

After losing QB Jameis Winston to the 2015 NFL Draft and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team will gladly welcome one season with the former Notre Dame signal-caller.

Sean Maguire was the all-important name to watch on the depth chart, but it doesn’t appear his skills will be needed looking to the 2015 season for much longer. One would imagine the addition of Golson would bump the anything but certain Maguire to a backup role.

As Bryan Fischer of CFB 24/7 put it, Maguire’s in a tough spot. Certainly, he was prepping for the role — but there had to be question marks all around, even in his head, surrounding the success that could be had for a kid stepping into the spotlight after Jameis Winston:

"Redshirt junior Sean Maguire appeared to be the heir apparent to Winston but replacing a Heisman Trophy winner is no easy task, and Fisher might not be completely sold that Maguire is the best option for the team in 2015."

Now, certainly nobody is saying Golson will do much better handling the pressure.

It’s likely that he won’t.

But, when all the cards are dealt and FSU has to construct a starting lineup against Texas State on September 5th, Everett Golson would be the guy who provides — if nothing else — the least amount of pressure for an on-edge fan-base.
