SEC Prospect Watch List: Ole Miss

facebooktwitterreddit

Ole Miss is one of college football’s most intriguing teams for this upcoming season. This team is loaded with top NFL prospects, with four players potentially going in the first round. Ole Miss was ranked as high as #3 last year thanks to their big win against Alabama but lost 4 of the next 8 games they played including a blow out loss to TCU in the Peach Bowl.

This team almost returns every impact starter from last year and has cemented itself as a legitimate SEC contender. Let’s take a look at some of their top NFL prospects for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Laquon Treadwell – Junior, WR

After suffering a gruesome injury last year against Auburn, Laquon Treadwell is expected to be one of the top wide outs in all of college football. Treadwell is so skilled for a 19 year old wide receiver — he’s big, strong, physical with the explosiveness to separate from any corner who faces him.

His stats really do not show his true ability as a football player — he was held back by horrible quarterback play at Ole Miss, but hopefully with either Ryan Buchanan or Chad Kelly his numbers can improve.

He can be Dez Bryant-level good.

Robert Nkemdiche – Junior, DL

Nkemdiche is my #1 rated player for the 2016 class… this guy has it all.

At 6’5 290 lbs, Nkemdiche has exceptional explosiveness and incredible strength on the defensive line. Nkemdiche is versatile as well, he can play both inside and outside on the defensive line. He came to Ole Miss as a defensive end but they moved him inside last season after he put on some weight. Nkemdiche has loads of potential that is waiting to be tapped into and this should be the year we really see him excel.

He will be in contention for the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and right now he should be slated at the top spot.

Laremy Tunsil – Junior, OT

Tunsil suffered a broken leg in the Peach Bowl against TCU but he will make a full recovery in time for the start of the season. Tunsil is my top rated offensive tackle — he is everything you want in a franchise tackle.

He excels in both pass and run blocking which makes him one of the most complete offensive linemen in the class. He has surprisingly good agility which helps him keep up with almost any pass rusher in college football. Tunsil was sensational this past season at Ole Miss and should be a top-10 pick if his leg cooperates with him.

Tony Conner – Junior, Safety

Conner is one of the year’s top safeties and if it wasn’t for Florida State’s Jalen Ramsey, Conner would be on top. He is a secure tackler and is a long, rangy defensive back who can make plays in the passing game.

He has gotten better every year he has been at Ole Miss and is primed for a huge season this year. His tackling and ball skills should attract a lot of NFL interest. Right now, Conner is being mocked around late Round One to early Round Two but his stock can increase as the college football season plays itself out.

Evan Engram – Junior, TE

Engram is a dangerous receiving threat who also has shown tremendous improvement from Freshman to Sophomore year. Engram can line up at tight end, out wide or in the slot and has the explosiveness to make plays all around the field. He is extremely dynamic with the ball in his hands.

Engram’s ability in the pass game will draw plenty of interest from NFL teams and draws comparisons to Washington Redskins and former Florida Gator tight end Jordan Reed.
