Reporter Thinks Eagles Will Take WR Nelson Agholar

No team in the NFL has been more interesting or active this offseason than Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have, in the last two offseasons, seemingly gotten rid of every star player they had (at least on offense) and replaced them with someone new.

This offseason, the Eagles lost Jeremy Maclin to the Kansas City Chiefs, who somehow scraped up enough cash to lure him away from Philly, who had among the most cap space in the league. Therefore, replacing Maclin has now become a priority via the 2015 NFL Draft, and NJ.com reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks thinks they will do it with USC star Nelson Agholar.

Agholar blew people away at the Combine with athleticism that they didn’t necessarily feel showed up on tape, but the Eagles and other teams have been all over the former Trojan receiver this offseason.

“Although he is currently considered by the majority of draft experts to be the fourth or fifth best wide receiver in the draft class, make no mistake about it — scouts around the league consider him right up there with the likes of Alabama’s Amari Cooper and West Virginia’s Kevin White.

The Eagles seem to fall into the camp of scouts that are high on Agholor, as they have both had him to Philadelphia for a visit, and head coach Chip Kelly flew down to Tampa Bay to work him out.”

And the fact that Kelly has paid such close attention to Agholar is nothing to pass off as just due diligence. We saw this type of behavior last year before the Eagles selected Vanderbilt’s Jordan Matthews, who is going to be the team’s projected number one receiver this season.

Adding Agholar would give the Eagles a vertical outside threat in the passing game to replace Maclin, who was awesome last season coming off of a torn ACL.

This would be a pick that makes a ton of sense for Philly, which has effectively given its entire offense a makeover the last two seasons. Chip Kelly is getting his players in place, and the Eagles are priming themselves to be one of the most exciting offenses in the league next year if Sam Bradford is healthy.

Agholar would be in line for significant touches as a rookie and would complement Jordan Matthews extremely well.
