DeVante Parker: Louisville WR NFL Draft Scouting Report

Louisville WR DeVante Parker flashes great ability to be a top-tier 2015 NFL Draft prospect if he interviews and tests well at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine.

Putting up great numbers and showing off great tape during his time in college, Parker has earned the rumors of him potentially sneaking into the top-10.

STRENGTHS

Parker’s size and toughness stands out immediately. He uses his height and length to his advantage when he’s going up for passes. While its occurred less often, the 6’3″ wideout has shown the ability to leap and use good focus to go up and snatch poorly-thrown passes.

Parker has risen throughout the scouting process by improving his route-running. His quick feet and ability to run the entire route tree will be looked at as a major plus by NFL teams.

WEAKNESSES

I’d like to think that Parker can keep up in the NFL, but I worry just a bit about his long speed against NFL defensive backs that are getting faster every season.

Despite having quick feet, Parker doesn’t exactly possess the short-area quicks that you’d like to see in a top-10 prospect. He certainly can get the job done in other ways, but it seems pretty clear that he won’t be beating too many corners one-on-one with his quickness.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see him run in the 4.5s in the 40-yard dash.

DRAFT STOCK

Speed is certainly a welcome trait for any receiver — it’s certainly not a must, however. Parker uses his size and athleticism to get the job done, something that some of the all-time greats have done.

I certainly wouldn’t be shocked for a team just outside the top-10 take a chance to improve their receiving corps.

Look for the Vikings at 11 … Former Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater might benefit from teaming up with his former college wide-out; the Vikings need to improve the WR spot regardless.
