Former Auburn WR Sammie Coates brings us one of the most interesting prospects of the 2015 NFL Draft season. We published a scouting report earlier in the season listing some of his biggest strengths and weaknesses, but as he’s taking part in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl this week, we’ll take a look at his game to see where his stock may be as we head towards the Draft.

  • It’s safe to say Coates won’t receive top-25 consideration. With other receivers leapfrogging him late in the season (Kevin White, DeVante Parker), the Auburn alum will slide outside of the bulk of the first round. However, teams late in the first round might have a reason to jump.

The Baltimore Ravens have a reason to look at a dynamic playmaker at 26. With the hiring of Marc Trestman and uncertainty surrounding the running game in 2014, Coates could become a Raven and soak up some knowledge from Steve Smith Sr.

At both 31 and 32, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks could be suitors for the 6’1″, 213 receiver. Both teams can’t expect to advance to two consecutive Super Bowls without selecting several receivers in the Draft.

Early in the second round, both the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans could jump if neither selects Alabama WR Amari Cooper in round one.

If he slips past #35, look for the New York Jets to jump, grabbing a receiver to match up with their new quarterback — or Geno Smith…

    Senior Bowl Flashes

Our friends on-hand down in Mobile said Coates had a nice first day not only at weigh-ins (height, weight above), but on the field as well. Here’s a Vine that shows him beating the corner with good size and quicks:

If he continues a dominant week and caps it off with a nice performance in the game, Coates could see his chances of a first round grade rise.
