Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Beats Tom Brady In Epic Matchup

What was billed as the NFL’s most epic game of the year featuring the first matchup ever between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers emerged victorious over the New England Patriots in what some are calling a potential Super Bowl preview.

Way back in the first game of the season, we saw a Seattle Seahawks defense get a ton of pressure on Aaron Rodgers and confuse the heck out of him on the way to the Packers’ first loss of the season. Rodgers, if anyone, should have been able to beat the mighty Champs, right? Wrong. It was an ugly start for Rodgers and the Packers, but as the season has progressed, arguably no one is more ‘in the zone’ than Rodgers right now and it’s sickeningly fun to watch.

As long as it’s not my favorite team playing against Rodgers, I’m enjoying watching every single snap he takes. Rodgers has always had such a swagger about him, a coolness or almost arrogant calmness on the field that you can see he just knows he is better than the team he is playing most of the time.

Of course, the Packers are not invincible. That’s been proven over the course of this season. However, in his first duel with quarterback Tom Brady, Rodgers did something that not a lot of people can do — he beat him. It was a pretty balanced effort from the Packers, whose defense was critical in the win over New England by getting pressure on Brady much of the game including a drive in the fourth quarter to potentially get the go ahead points.

When the Packers got the ball back late in the fourth quarter, there was still enough time that if the Patriots could force the Packers to go three-and-out, they would get the ball back with enough time for Brady to get his team hastily down the field with a shot to win. Faced with a pretty lengthy third down, Rodgers found himself with a relatively clean pocket and made a throw that only someone with brass stones would even attempt to make. He put the ball right on Randall Cobb, who got the first down and was promptly sandwiched between Patriots defenders.

Rodgers’ throw was incredible, the catch was awesome, and Tom Brady’s reaction was priceless. CBS shamelessly cut away to Brady after Rodgers’ throw, and Brady dropped three of the biggest F-bombs you’ll probably ever see him drop. Brady was fuming mad, but the Packers earned a huge win, and proved to the rest of the league that they could do what no team had done since very early this NFL season — they beat the Patriots. New England got its first taste of reality in awhile after playing home games against teams like Denver and Detroit, while dominating the Indianapolis Colts on the road.

It was an epic stretch for the Patriots, who were on a seven game winning streak, one that the Packers and Aaron Rodgers brought to a screeching halt.
